First look at the settings within the scanner and see if you can save it directly to the program of your choice. You may have to browse to find an appropriate program. Saving documents and pictures directly to your desktop helps to find it more easily. When you find the photo or document you have scanned, Right Click, Open With, and select a program like Windows Photo Viewer or Windows Photo Gallery. In that same window, check the option near the bottom that says Always Open With

SOURCE: How do I add multiple pages to one scanned doucment?

Open your Adobe Acrobat (e.g., 9.0 Pro), load your pages into the document feeder (fewer than 30 at a time), then ask Adobe Acrobat to create PDF from scanner (File/Create PDF/From Scanner). Canon MP530 as the scanner and click OK. Works like a charm!

How do I name and save a scanned document in HP C4480 (Windows)?

Hello, Robert -

I hope I am correct in assuming you have the user's manual for the HP Photosmart C4480. Just in case you do not, this is the link to the web page where you can download and save the manual (PDF format - Adobe Acrobat Reader software needed, free):
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-photosmart-c4400-all-in-one-printer-series/3655558/model/3655559/manuals

After downloading the PDF document save it (Save As) to your Documents folder and give it a name you can find again easily - maybe: HP Photosmart C4480 Manual.

How to save a PDF file:
- With your computer, open the PDF document in Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Move cursor to upper left corner of page and left click or tap on FILE
- In drop down File menu, move cursor to SAVE AS and left click or tap on it
- In Save As window which opens, move cursor down to CHOOSE A DIFFERENT FOLDER and left click on tap on that "button"
- In window which opens choose DOCUMENTS in the Documents Library
- In File name box near the bottom of the Documents Library pop-up window, enter the name with which you want to save the PDF document, Example: HP Photosmart C4480 Manual
- Left click or tap on the SAVE button

Note: The steps above will be similar to what you will need to do after scanning any document.

The instructions for scanning start in Chapter 10, Page 64 (Image 304 of the PDF format manual).

Open the scanner through your computer. It is easier to save the document later by operating the scan functions through your computer.

With the scan application open on your computer run the scan process. After scanning the document, you will need to save it. First, you will need to determine the format in which you want to save the scanned document: PDF, JPEG (photo image), GIF, etc.

After choosing the format for the scanned document, in the proper file name box, enter the name for the document you wish to save.
Examples:
Correspondence 2018-Feb-18 Brother
Photo Brothers-Family 2018-Feb-18
Deed of Sale 2018-Feb-18 House

Get the idea? I like to give a date to my scanned document names to help identify them better.

Once you have entered the file name, click or tap on the SAVE button.

Note: I always like to open the saved document from the Documents folder to verify it was saved. Plus, my scanner attaches a number at the end of every file name. After closing out the saved document and closing the scanner winder, I go back and Edit the file name, removing the added number (digits) from the saved file name.

The video you will find with this link:
http://esvideo.es/video/watch/ult2ORqN1eGRiLQ=
is for those who use Windows 8 or 10. Even if you use another Windows operating system (I use Windows 7), you can probably figure out what to do. The video goes through the scanning and saving process step-by-step.

Best wishes.

New all in one printer/scanner. when I scan I get:- Adobe reader could not open 'scan_Doc0001.pdf'

Might need a bit more information about this: But I'm presuming you scan your document and save it as a pdf document using the built in HP software?
Couple of things to try:
1 - have you got the latest version of Adobe Reader? It may be that you are using an older version - the pdf document specification has been updated over the years and it may be that you're saving the pdf using a newer version of the pdf format than adobe reader is able to read.
2 - Adobe reader isn't the only pdf viewer, there are numerous other pdf document viewers (some free some not) You could try another pdf viewer, like Foxit Reader (free to use) and see if that can open it?
3 - When you save the scan, make sure that in the Save Dialog box it is really saving it as pdf. Common mistake is that people often just save a file with .pdf and expect the program to know that you want to save as pdf. When you scan there are several other file formats that you can use (Tiff, Jpeg etc) Is is possible you're saving the file as Tiff or Jpeg but with a .pdf file extension? If you're not sure, re-scan the document and resave it, but don't use a file extension, let the scanning program do that, see what it saves it as?
4 - check where you're saving the pdf on your computer? Is the place you're trying to open it from, the same as the place you've saved it?

I have an HP Officejet 6500. I want to scan a document to a PDF, then upload it to a website. How do I do it? I scanned the document, but now I can't find the PDF.

(1.) Start / All Programs / HP / HP Viewer / Scan Document (icon is in left margin)
(2.) A small screen appears entitled "Select Source", and provides the "HP Officejet 6200 Series TWAIN" option. Highlight this then click "select".
(3.) I accept the default provided on the next screen (i.e., radio buttons for "Document" & "Scan for editable text"; "Scan to:" (drop box) "HP Document Viewer; check "Show Preview" box; then click "Scan".
(4.) After a brief pause, my printer scans, then the HP Document Viewer screen on the PC provides a small image of the scanned document and allows me to click the "accept" icon.
(5.) After "accepting" the scan into the HP Document Viewer, it takes a minute for it to appear in the "viewer". Notice that the "View Thumbnails" tab is highlighted at the top of this screen. Click the check-box next to the scanned item then click the "View Page" tab just to the right of the "View Thumbnails" tab.
(6.) The new screen should show a larger version of your scanned document. Now notice the "Save As" icon in the upper left corner. Click that, then "yes" to warning default screen, then select a file name and location to save it into.
(7.) Before clicking save, click the drop box next to the "Save as type:" and select one of the pdf options. Mine offers: "PDF 1-bit", PDF 8-bit Grayscale", and "PDF 24-bit Color" options. Choose one of them then click "save".
(8.) You should then be able to find the scanned pdf file in the directory you selected to save it under.

Note that you may need all of the HP printer utilities and tool software installed for this to work. If you don't, you may need to uninstall/reinstall the printer software.
