Ypou maybe right and it is dead. Try other options like what happens when you plug it in. Listen to it when you do that. And please, I do not mean anything here....but does the power supply have a light that glows when you plug it in?

Inkjet printers do not like being unused, especially for years. The print head nozzles get clogged with dried ink when they are unused and even when you insert new ink cartridges the inks won't flow through the nozzles properly. The solution is to replace the print head.

Clean it freom back

under the file menu pulldown select page setup; change the margins to 0.0

also try to set print area from the word proc. program under file/print
usally if u highlight the whole doc. set print area is available in the menu

The only thing to try is to run the cleaning software from 3-7 times, or until print quality is good. Right click the printer icon in the printer folder, select properties, then at the bottom click preferences. Locate maintainence, and run the clean and follow the instructions. If after 7 times the quality doesn't improve, you will have to replace the printheads. As long as the quality improves with each clean, continue to do so until it is acceptable.

It may be that an updated driver is needed; that would be available from the HP website. You should be able to manually set the printer via the HP user software that came with it although it seems that Word should be able to do that automatically.

Discovered bad capacitor on pc board 680uf 6.3 volts. Look for one with the top expanded up. I had the same issue, one $.14 caps later, all is well.

If you check on your printers user menu software- if loaded - there is a link for doing the head cleaning as a parrt off the maintenance when the printing quality reduces. So check this out it you are able to do it. On the other hand if the head seems printing low, the possiblity of the head being worn out is more evident specially when you have been printing often and the ink had not dried out. Use the printer with loaded ink to keep printing for some time to see if the print starts to clear. If not you may need help to confirm the condition of the head. Please try and see if this works.
