Electrolux Epic 6500 Vacuum - Page 2 Questions & Answers
What charge for this service?
Hi,
Actually there are no hidden screws on your Electrolux Epic model. This is the newer plastic body canister made by Aerus Electrolux. In order to open the vacuum cleaner to inspect the motor, first open the vacuum bag door and remove the vacuum bag. After the vacuum bag has been removed, keep the vacuum bag door open.
The two rubber furniture guards on both sides of the vacuum cleaner are actually what are holding the top housing and the bottom housing together. You'll need to slide both of these rubber furniture guards off in order to open the rest of the vacuum cleaner. They slide forward towards the vacuum bag housing which is why the door needs to be open.
In order to get these slides started, it's sometimes necessary to put a flat head screwdriver in between the back of the furniture guard and the start of the cord reel housing. Right after the rubber starts behind the word Electrolux. Fit a flat head screw driver in this gap, and it's sometimes easier to use a hammer, and hit the screw driver that's on the furniture guard facing the front of the vacuum.
With a little perseverance, you should be able to get the slide started, and when the slide starts to come out past the vacuum bag housing, simply grab the end of it with a pair of pliers, and pull the rest of it out of the vacuum.
Do this on both sides of the vacuum, and you'll be able to separate the two housings, and get access into the motor compartment.
If you have any problems, or would like me to take a few pictures of this being done, I'd be happy to do so. Please just rate my repair as helpful if you found this advice useful. I really do appreciate this.
Thank you,
Chris J.

I have the electrolux vacuum
1. A manual can be downloaded from:
http://www.aerusvacuums.com/support/manuals/.
The Epic 60006500 is located under "Older Models". Download the Epic 6500 manual
2. Check for clogs in the hose and the power nozzle inlet.
3. Disconnect hose. Turn on vacuum. Does it run? If so, place hand over intake? Did it shut off? If it did, the problem is a worn out or broken component inside the vacuum. Generally a result of using generic "made to fit" Electrolux bags. This is a part that needs to be replaced in an authorized Aerus (Electrolux) shop.
Electrolux Epic 8000
YES,JUST TAKE OFF THE HEPA FILTER.
IF I MAY SUGGEST,IF YOU WANT TO BUY AN AREUS/ELECTROLUX YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK AT THEIR "BOTTOM OF THE LINE" MACHINE, THE "CLASSIC" IT'S HALF THE PRICE AND A MUCH BETTER DESIGN THEN THE NEW "FLAGSHIP" MODEL, WHICH IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN ANY PAST ELECTROLUX. IT'S BULKY,AWKWARD TO USE. EVEN IF YOUR BUYING FROM ANOTHER SOURCE, GO INTO AN AERUS DEALER AND GIVE THEM A TEST DRIVE.
I CLEAN APARTMENTS FOR A LIVING AND AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH ALL ELECTROLUX MODELS.
GOOD LUCK!
Cord will not retract on
Try tipping it on its end,or nearly so. Then tug gently and release until it retracts. This has worked for me nearly every time I'd tried on various Electrolux vacuums.
If this doesn't work, the vacuum needs to be taken to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store for repairs.
