Electrolux Epic 6500 Vacuum - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Vacuum turns on for 2 sec and then shuts down,
This is more than likely due to a broken control valve assembly. I'm seeing quite a few machines come in for replacement of this part.
To be sure, disconnect the hose and turn on the machine. If it still shuts off immediately, or if you place your hand over the opening and it shuts off, it's due to a bad cva. If it continues running, then the problem is more likely due to a clog in the hose or the tube in the power nozzle.
Also, try replacing or removing the afterfilter and see if that makes a difference.

First, check the afterfilter located under the tool holder on the back top of the machine. If it's dirty, replace or remove.
Detach the hose and turn on the vacuum. If it comes on, place hand over intake. If it shuts off, the most likely problem is the "control valve assembly" that's connected to the dial on top of the vacuum. You can try turning the dial so the large dot is lined up with the arrow. This may or may not help.
The CVA is probably worn out and needs replaced. The part can only be purchased at an authorized Aerus store and I highly recommend letting their service person replace/repair it. To locate the shop nearest you, go to the following site and enter your zip code.

Using generic bags increases the chances of the CVA wearing it before it should. If the bag doesn't say Home Solutions on it, it not the genuine article.

There's a tab at the middle of the lower back of the tool holder (air diffuser). Pressing in on that tab should enable you to lift the back of the holder first, then lift off the whole thing. It will come off, just make sure the tab is in far enough to release it.
This gives you access to the afterfilter, which you can easily switch out.

Hello there,
Sorry to hear about the troubles you are having with your vacuum. To my knowledge there is no master reset switch, they usually are referring to "resetting" the device which is just limited to unplugging it, and turning it off and back on a few times. If the bag change symbol does not disappear it could be a sensor problem inside the vacuum. Does the vacuum still operate normally? Is it vacuuming successfully into the new bag? If so just ignore the warning and just change the bag when you believe it's getting full in the future. If you want to confirm this information please call electrolux customer support at 877-435-3287.
If you are still having difficulties please let me know and I will definitely help you further.
Thanks
Tim

Hi,
Take something and run it through the hose...your hose is clogged up...and yeah it has to be bigger then a wire... a wire will often push right through a clogg of dust...
Here is a tip that I wrote about my Bissel but I bet you have the same problem and the hose is clogged...

Have an electrolux 6500 and
The hose might be plugged. Try rolling a marble or small coin through the hose. If it doesn't go through, that's likely the problem.
Also check the short tube in the power nozzle for a clog.
If your machine is still under warranty, less than 5 years old, you don't want to take anything apart. Doing so voids the warranty. Call your local authorized dealer/consultant or take it to the Aerus shop, and ask them to unclog it. Sales reps are not authorized to take the machine apart, so don't let them. This also will void any warranty.
Also, check the filter beneath the bag. If this is is dirty, it can cause the motor to overheat as well.
THE SECOND LIGHT ON AND
Depending on when you got your vacuum, it may still be under warranty. I strongly suggest calling your dealer or sales rep, or taking the machine in, to have them check it.
It may be something as simple as a full bag!

My Electrolux upright worked fine
Are you using the proper bag? There's a kill/reset switch that needs to be pushed down by the rim of the bag before the unit will run.
