You haven't given make or model

however, usually the easiest way to get at foreign objects is to remove the heater.

undo back panel and you will see heater held in by 1 10mm nut in centre. loosen nut and prize heater out. you can then see into the gap between tub and drum and fish coin out.

a few types have the heater mounted in the front which makes it more difficult

We have a dryer fin with something rattling around in it. Do the fins come off?

Need a model number for the dryer for a more definitive answer--usually you would have to open the top cover to expose the drum. Depending on the model dryer, some baffles(proper name) are screwed onto the drum, some have plastic tabs which must be carefully pushed in order to remove the baffle. Most likely, the rattling is caused by coins left in pockets--they won't damage the dryer but can be irritating to listen to. Front load washers are notorious for trapping coins in the baffles of the rotating baskets--and that is A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR if you want to have the coins or objects removed.

My GE WSLP 1100 makes a grinding/"coin rattling" before the spin cycle. what's going on?

You have something rattling around in your water pump. It might be a coin or a piece of fabric getting in the way. There is a cap you can open to have a look. It is on the bottom right at the back of the machine. Hope this helps.

Coin trapped between rotating drum and casing

Get underneath the machine and remove the big black house coming directly out of the drum, this is held in place with either a screw tie or pinch type tie.
Put the machine back level and see if the coins drop out (they should) or have a feel around inside the drum.
Please make sure machine is unplugged and empty before carrying out this procedure.
Some water will come out of hose.
