Does the auto exposure go down to 30 secs? If you are getting 30 secs on B mode then the self timer will not work. Set the camera to full auto and then from the menu select self timer, you should have 2 options 2 sec and 10 sec. Then press the shutter

SOURCE: Self Timer Activation

The instruction manual is quite poor. Once you have decided which option you would like (2 or 10 seconds) you must go back to the main menu to select which drive mode you would like. Single is default. From single, you can select self-timer, which will activate it for your next shot. The drive mode will always reset back to single after every shot so you'll need to set this up for every self-timed shot.

Happy shooting!

I can not set the self timer. In the manual it says hit menue button go to "self timer" select the secons and shot hit "set" hit menu, hit shutter button fully. When I do this the Timer lamp doesn't...

The self timer will not work in the "Easy" mode (icon with a heart in it) or in movie mode. According to the chart in the back of the manual, the self timer should work with all other modes.

I am having problems setting the timer on my Canon Digital Camera

When selecting the custom timer, before hitting set, hit menu. This will allow you to select the delay from 1-30 seconds and select anywhere between 1-10 pictures. Just hit set to save the settings
