Blank screen when taking a picture

My camera will no longer show the image on the screen when I am taking a picture. The screen is black. I can still take the picture and once it's taken I can view it fine. Is this fixable?

Yes it is. Press the DISP button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries.

The screen no longer shows pictures. The screen is still working as an image flashes onto it while it's starting up. I can still take pictures.

But when you take a picture, is the image also black? If so, this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

LCD Display Blank

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)

The hand with parenthesis is your image stabilization. It sounds like if your images are turning out black, you may need service.

Try hitting your display button a few times and see if anything shows up on the screen.
