When I turn my Canon PowerShot SX 160 IS on I get a lens error and it shuts down automatically. This is a new camera. Happened first week I bought it.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

I did the same thing and it works only be restarting it now but it works lol. I threw it agianst my bed . SO BEAT THE **** OUT OF YOUR CAMERA..then restart and it should work..*** made **** what can you say

The best thing to do is to first try restarting the camera. Do not push or pull on the lens as this will often cause other issues. Do not blow air in the lens as this generally moves any dirt or dust to the back and it sits on your imaging sensor, you'll end up with poor photos after that. Problem: dust in the gaps near lens which makes it jammed. Effect: the sceen shows blk color. Solution: just blow over it or vaccum it.
