When downloading photos, camera reads as "No Images"
This is the first time this has happened. I plugged in my camera to my computer to download the images, and the camera reads as having no images. This despite the fact that when NOT connected to the computer, there are 675 photos on the camera that I can see, scroll through, erase, etc. etc. I have never had this problem before, and am using all the same set-up (computer, camera, cables, software).

I would look at the connection ports. Sometimes dust,dirt gets in there..Try blowing air into the connectors. You can use you mouth breath but a small air compressor works better..But I wouldn't over do it with to much air pressure... My iPhone mic was dirty...No one could hardly hear me...I done this and now they hear me good...Worth a try...It could bent prongs in the port or a bad cable. Good luck.

I had the same problem and realized that my computer wasn't recognizing my camera. I went through my device manager and looked under portable devices, I could see that my camera had an error in its driver, so I right clicked on my camera and uninstalled the driver for my camera, and unplugged and plugged my camera back in. It instantly recognized my camera and reinstalled the driver.
Having same issue as above - I thought it was my cable so I ordered a new one. The camera attempts to 'speak' to the pc - and then the Windows box pops up not recognising the USB installed device....I also uninstalled and reloaded the Canon software (had camera for 18 months and only started this rubbish a month back) - was about to re-laod my entire PC - thankfully I saw it was not only me.
Will send mine in for a Firmware update / service.

Try this.
Connect the camera to the computer via the usb cable. Set the mode switch to playback and press the power button, then:
on your pc go to Start>All Programs (or Programs)>Canon Utilities and find Canon Window. Double click on it and it should fire the program. Let me know if you have any problems. If not, feel free to rate my solution.
Go get a card reader and transfer your images thru that. That's the only way I ever transfer my images from camera to computer. You can get one relatively inexpensive...that is...if your computer doesn't already have a card slot in it.
It sounds like the locking switch on the side of the SD card is in the "locked" position. Remove the card from the camera and slide the tiny switch on the card to the unlocked position. That should do it.

It is possible that your camera is set to store in raw mode which usually means you need software to download the images from the camera to the computer.
Read the manual, it is there for a reason. If you lost it, download an electronic version of it, all major manufacturers let you do that.
Everybody needs to read their manual several times. Read it once, then take some photos. Read it again, and practice what you learned. Read it again, you'll understand much more this time, then go experiment.
Also keep this in mind: Memory cards can and do fail, and sooner or later there is a good chance that will happen to you.
The correct thing to do is this: After a day's shooting, download your photos to your computer. Backup your images (e.g. onto a CD/DVD). Post process, sort, delete, etc, then back up the "good" copies somewhere else.
When you have them safely on your computer, format the card in your camera. That erases the photos, but also erases "housekeeping" stuff and errors. It isn't a guarantee, but formatting improves your chances of trouble free use of your memory card.
There are many mobile options for storing and viewing photos, your camera is a very bad choice for that.

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But as a solution I highly recommend that you instead consider a card reader to download your photos to your computer. They're very inexpensive, much faster downloading photos from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.
You place the camera's card in the reader, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For all of these reasons, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. Really, you'll save yourself a lot of heartache. Here are some examples from Amazon. Also, don't be fooled by the cost. some of the cheap ones work just fine. Go by the reviews. Also make sure you get a reader that is stated capable of reading your card (particularly if you have an SDHC card):
I have had the same problem with getting a busy signal after plugging in the USB cord. Usually turning it on and off a few times, giving it a few seconds in between, works for me. Also, have you tried just going into My Computer and clicking on the drive for the USB you've got you're camera plugged into and transferring the photos onto your pc from there? They only go onto your pc, not into a program but you can get them into one from there.
Has this been happening all the time since you got the camera?
My guess is that If the camera starts up again after powering off, it probably isn't the battery.
Can you try downloading only half of the images at a time? I'm thinking it may go into sleep mode after awhile if you're downloading a lot of photos. What format are you using, jpg? RAW? raw are really big files. What's your megapizel size?
If your SD memory card contains more than 1,000 images, the camera will display "Communication Error". Use a card reader (if available) to import your images into the computer, or see about having some CD's made at a photofinishing business.
Downloading images from a digital camera can be very easy if you keep these basic steps in mind.
After loading the PhotoMax software on your computer:
1. Make sure that both the camera and computer are turned off.
2. Confirm that the camera has adequate power (using the AC adapter is recommended; otherwise, make sure that there are fresh batteries in the camera).
3. Plug the serial cable that came with your camera into the serial output of the camera.
4. Plug the wide end of the serial cable into the COM port (serial connection) of the computer.
5. Turn the camera on and start the computer.
6. Launch the PhotoMax software (double-click the icon) from the desktop.
7. Click on Get Photo.
8. Click on Album or Camera.
9. Select Twain device from the Acquire From box and click OK.
10. Select your camera from the Select Source box.
11. Click the Acquire icon: (Thumbnails will be displayed).
12. Select images you wish to save from the thumbnails and click on Get Photos. Your images will now be saved to the album you choose.
