Saeco Model D.A. 8P Standard/Instant Beverage
Sassy-Pants-
I have some experience with Saecos. I have had your problem many times.
To start with, Saecos (5Ps, 7Ps, and 8Ps) error out if they don't get a signal from the dosser that it is full within 14 seconds of beginning to grind. If I were troubleshooting your machine, I would look at these 2 things first, before all else:
1. Is the grinder running at the proper speed? If you don't hear any difference, it's probably OK. But if the machine has a lot of coffees on it (say more than 20,000) you might take a look at the burr rings to see if they are worn or caked with coffee oils. They should feel pretty sharp (not nearly enough to cut you, but well defined) to the touch as you run your finger around the ring. And the color should be uniform- brass colored- if the rings are still useable. Also, the brushes could be shot if the machine has say 50,000 coffees on it. As far as I know, the only solution to worn brushes is to replace the grinder. The good news is that the new grinder will come with new burr rings.
2. The dosser. More than likely the solution is that the dosser needs to be cleaned, especially if you are using a dark roast coffee. Take it off and clean it carefully with a degreaser (Greased Lightening). Keep at it until all of the coffee dust and oils are gone. Be very careful not to crinkle the metal foil or to immerse the switch or solenoid. Also, are either of the 2 return springs broken? Replace if necessary. Finally, the dosser switch may be either dirty, out of adjustment, or deffective. You should be able to press very gently with your finger on the foil, pressing it against the dosser switch arm. There should be an audible "click" on AND off as you press and release with your finger.
I would like to hear from you if you find this helpful.
