When I pull the wand out of my dyson, the entire vacuum shuts off. Or if I use ot for a long period of time (for example, if I am cleaning the entire house), it shuts off by itself (sort of like it's

Hi Jodi, it's Jack at Dyson. Like most Dyson vacuums, DC17 is engineered to shut itself off for protection if it starts to overheat. If this happens after a period of use, or when you try to use the wand and hose, it's likely this will be caused by a blockage somewhere in the machine. We'd like to provide further assistance and to help you check for any obstructions within the machine. When you have your vacuum easily to hand, please call us on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA). We'll look forward to speaking with you.

After charging vacuum will not start

Hi Carol, it's Jack at Dyson. The DC17 upright is not a cordless vacuum - are you able to confirm the model number of your Dyson vacuum so we can ensure we're giving you relevant advice? The model number will begin DC--, followed by two numbers. You can also find advice and support online by visiting http://www.dyson.com clicking 'Support', then selecting your machine from the list. If you'd prefer, you can speak to our experts directly by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Cannot activate the step mechanism that allows for upright vacuuming

Hi Jan, it's Jack at Dyson. If you're having difficulty reclining your DC17 from the upright position, it's possible something like a pen or pencil has been accidentally vacuumed up, and is jamming the changeover valve. Our Support guide should help you check for this: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc17/dc17-allfloors/using-my-dyson-list/redirect-to-flo-dc07-gen-how-to-remove-a-blockage/flo-dc07-gen-how-to-remove-a-blockage/redirect-to-flo-dc17-wand-suction/flo-dc17-wand-suction If you'd like some further advice from our experts after you've given this a try, please call us directly on 1-866-693-9766 (US) or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Agitator wont turn

It could be one or more of a few causes. Easiest to check is the belt and/or brush roll. There are two switches for the brush roll. Both must be working properly. One is by the main power switch and the other is in the motor compartment. If the problem still persists check the brush bar motor in the power nozzle assembly
