The power cuts in and out on high speed

It might be a power problem. Check the cord and switch first. Follow the power down to the motor to attempt to determine what could be causing it to not get full voltage

How do I hook up the furniture brush attachment?

I have the same one. I am assuming that you are using the air turbine brush attachment that came with the vacuum. There really isn't anything special to it. You can either stick it on the end of the wand, or remove the wand and insert it directly on the end of the hose. It appears that it is supposed to 'click' into something but that is not the case on the DC17 model. It does click into the hose and/or handle of different models as shown in this video. Very little suction at beater brush.

Hey, this is Leland with Crucial Vacuum, If the brush bar is not working properly there may be several reasons. Firstly, the motor may be the problem. If you hear any noises while the machine is running, you should contact the original manufacturer for trouble shootingsolutions. Secondly, your vacuum may be in need of new parts. By changing either the brushroll or belts, you should be able to increase the quality of the suction. --- You can purchase replacement parts for the DC17 direct from Crucial Vacuum with freeshipping and an exclusive 10%coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10 http://www.crucialvacuum.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=dc17

I need to replace the brushbaron my DC17 Animal

Hi,

The original Dyson part number for the brush bar (often called brush roll) is: 911961-01

If you type the above part number into Google Products (click link below) you will get a list of suppliers at varying prices. A genuine Dyson part will cost about $20-25. There are some cheaper replacements available but you may need a different belt to use these, so I suggest you buy an original. Make sure the supplier states the part is Original / Genuine Dyson or OEM.

I can't help you locate a Dyson service centre in Albuquerque, but you should be able to fit the new brush bar yourself. If you do need a local service centre, you can call Dyson on the following number - they will provide details of your nearest authorised service centre:

Dc17 -too much pet hair around the belt gears

I was having the same trouble and it was driving me nuts.  I tried cleaning and it did not work.  Then I tore the brush assembly off and looked up into where the little tooth gear is.  I saw something that did not look right.  There was a silver roller bearing laying down below the assembly.  I got some tweezers and found it was not attached to any thing.  I then cleaned out the pet hair and saw a spot where this roller goes that takes the slack out of the brush. It is a pain and takes alot of trying with pliers and prodding  with a screw driver, but I got the roller back where it goes.  It does not attach very solidly, but I put every thing back together and it works great so far.  It is a definite design flaw.  I found that you have to keep the main unit on  the floor when the brush is running.  Do not do stairs or pick it up and do couch cushions, that is when the bearing breaks loose.  Dyson needs to figure out a better design for this.  I was lucky to figure it out, but it is very hard to get to.  Again never pick up the unit when the brushes are engaged.

Dyson DC 25 power shuts off in upright position

To clarify, do you mean the suction and brush motion shut off in the upright position, or that the entire unit shuts off? If the latter, most Dyson uprights shut off the brush unit in the full upright position and shunt the suction into the handle for use with the accessories. There is also an on/off for the brush, next to the main power button for the DC25. If it's off ( or stuck that way), no brush motion. The manual also notes, 'for use, turn on power and click the foot pedal in back to recline the unit.' (Link to manual here: http://www.dyson.com/medialibrary/files/dyson/support/downloads/uk/floorcare/manuals/DC25_Manual.pdf See Page 8). The 'High Reach Cleaning' section also notes that the brush bar won't rotate when the vacuum is in the full upright position. If you are completely losing power, the manual notes that the unit will shut off if the bar is jammed, or if there is a significant line blockage that makes the motor overheat. If this is happening, check the accessory line in the handle for blockage. Good Luck :-)

Dc17 recline

The manual can be found here: https://www.dyson.com/medialibrary/Files/Dyson/Support/downloads/US/Floorcare/manuals/dc17_opmanual_usa%20pdf.pdf Per page 9 (and this is consistent with every Dyson manual I've seen for uprights), you put your foot on the lower assembly and pull back the upper one. If it's really hard to pivot, even after you get it back, I'd start with just doing so with the vacuum off and move it through it's full range of motion several times to see if it eases up. Also check that the lower spot where the accessory-tool hose clicks into the lower part of the unit if completely set into place. Some manuals have mentioned this as part of troubleshooting. Good Luck!

Roller motor on a DC17 dyson wont turn on

there is a reset button under the cover that houses the on/off switches. remove the handle/wand and look on the back (where the top of the hose sits) for 2 screws (its a torx/star head screw size t10 i believe). remove them and locate 4 small locking tabs that hold the switch cover to the frame of the vacuum. Depress them and pop the cover off (2 towards the top and 2 towards the bottom). Youll see 3 switches (2 square red buttons and one small cylindrical shaped one). Push the small red one (the one to the left if my memory serves me right). you should hear a click. if you do than the switch is reset. if not check all connections to all 3 switches. if you see nothing loose or not connected, you may need a new brushbar motor. try it

Making an extremely loud noise. Cleaned beater bar and tubes but still making loud humming noise not like usual

Hi Laura I'm sorry you're having difficulties. This is a question that would probably be better answered in a more conversational way. Depending on where the sound comes from will greatly influence the answer. The worst case scenario is that it is the motor which is making the noise, in which case service attention would be required to inspect and diagnose the issue.

I would recommend that you give the Dyson Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA). Our experts will be happy to talk you through some further diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand. All the best, Allan

I turn on the vacuum and it does nothing but when i put the brushes down is turns on and the brush motor runs.....but the suction motor won't do anything.......help!

You have power so it can't be the switch or power cord. It is most likely the motor or the cord from the switch to the motor that is the problem. Start by checking these areas first.

I have charged battery overnight but when running motor is pulsing.

Hi Marilyn, it's Jack at Dyson. Your Dyson cordless vacuum is engineered to pulse to let you know if something is preventing airflow from passing through the machine. This could be due to a temporary blockage in the floor tool, wand or bin inlet. To check your machine for blockages, just follow the steps shown in our video guide: Please note your machine may differ visually to the one shown in the video guide, but the process for checking for blockages will be very similar. Make sure the bin inlet flap can open and shut freely, and has not been jammed shut by any debris. I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but you're welcome to call the Dyson Customer Helpline if you need further advice after giving this a try. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

How to replace brush bar motor

It's not easy. The cleaner head assembly is hard to get off the main frame. When you get it there are 4 hex screws to the motor cover (hard to turn). Then a black and a white wire go into the unit. The wire cover can be removed with one hex screw but you still can't disconnect them. You have to remove the housing on the main drum (which I haven't done yet). I was looking for a picture like this all day. This is a shot I took today, apparently the only shot of the motor in the housing on the entire web. bc2d0b10-525a-469b-953c-57c5fd2f36e0.jpg

My dyson was working fine then all of a sudden it shut off. I was able to get it to turn on with the handle in the vacuuming position but the roller bar wasn't working and there was no suction.

Hi , my dyson went the same way but the motor would come on for a short time then cut out ,then it would not come on at all i replaced the motor with a new one and its worked sound since then. You can also get problems with the cables breaking inside. yours sounds like the motor. I replaced the motor myself with some help from the espares site on my pc, or you can put it into your nearest hoover /dyson repairer to diagnose the fault.
