Dyson dc17 makes loud noise on carpet setting.

It is probably the brush roll motor making the noise. Remove the brush roll & belt and turn both motors on. If you do not hear the noise when both motors are running the noise is likely coming from the brush roll

My dyson dc17 amimal's main turbine head is not

Right next to the power switch is a switch that will turn on/off the beater brush. Push firmly on this button and see if that turns it back on. It will turn itself off if it has too much resistance on it from getting tangled in something like a long carpet fiber that wraps itself around the beater brush. Check and make sure it's not bound up by something and then press the on/off button for the beater brush.

My dog chewed the plug off the power cord, is

Yes. You can splice the cord together. But when you pull it it will want to separate, so when you splice it add something ...like a wire tie..super glue it to both sides before you tape the splice. If it is the whole cord you will have to take it apart and make new stripped ends and just remove the old piece..put the new end on. This is not as easy as it sounds, I have done it but I am handy with tools and a little common sense.A handy man can fix it for you.

I can run my dc17 to clean my floors but when I

I called Dyson and they walked me thru the process of making sure nothing was blocking the airflow and suction. Everything seemed fine (not blocked). We couldn't figure out anything on the phone and I was still having the same problem. Trying to figure out the solution, I removed (entirely) the filter that you're supposed to clean every 6 months and ran the vacuum (I cleaned this filter 2 months ago). It worked! I cleaned the filter (again!) and let the vacuum run and it seemed fine. I can understand why they won't instruct you to completely remove the filter but it would save a lot of time if they just had you check ALL the options.I hope this helps!Longmont Epoxy Garage Floors

My dyson DC17 will not turn on unless the handle

Not sure if I can help, but I'll try. The DC17 has two motors: the vacuum motor and a separate motor for the brush bar. It is normal that the brush motor works only when the handle is pulled back in the vacuuming position - that's the way it's made. So, when you say "my DC17 won't turn on", I'm not sure if you mean the vac motor, the brush motor, or both. If the vacuum motor won't turn on, then you've got a problem I can't help you with.
As for no suction through the hose, I have to ask... are you sure your vacuum motor is working at all? Even with the hose stored away, the machine still relies on suction through that hose. If you're sure the motor is working, then either you've got a blockage that you haven't yet found (there's at least one inspection port, a sort of U tube at bottom right of machine, that you need to check), or it could be that you've got a hole in the flexible hose (which opens only when the hose is extended).
Sorry if this is a bit garbled, but I'm puzzled by your problem. If you want to come back with more details I'll try again for you!

My carpet nap is very thick and it is very hard to

Hi Deb,I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using DC17 on this particular carpet type. DC17 is engineered to adjust automatically to different floor types, and does not need manual height adjustment.Carpet manufacturers sometimes recommend vacuuming deep or delicate carpet piles with the rotating brush bar turned off. We'd recommend checking with the manufacturer of your carpeting as they'll be best placed to offer advice on the correct way of cleaning it. To turn off the brush bar on DC17, just use the silver brush control switch next to the red on/off switch. It's also worth checking that the soleplate is fitted correctly. Any dirt or residue on the soleplate can be removed with a damp cloth - make sure it's completely dry before refitting it. You can find out how to remove and replace it here: http://content.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=962&product=DC17-ANIMALI hope this helps, but if you would like further advice after you've given this a try, please email your details to [email protected]. I have a Dyson Animal

Hi there,I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC28 Animal. From what you've described, it sounds as though the hose may have been twisted the last time you replaced the wand on the machine. This is easy to resolve by following these steps:
  • Extend the wand upwards as far as possible
  • With the rear of the cleaner facing you, follow the hose down to where it attaches to the cleaner
  • Whilst stretching the loose section of hose away from the cleaner, pull the hose release tab to detach the base of the hose from the cleaner
  • Allow the hose to untwist itself
You should now be able to pull the wand out to it's fullest extent, removing it from the cleaner. Once you've done this, simply reattach the lower end of the hose to the cleaner. If you have any further questions, or if you'd prefer someone to talk you through this process, you can call us free on 1866MYDYSON.Kind regards,JackDyson Online Customer Support

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your DC17. The cleaner should recline easily into the vacuuming position when you place one foot on the cleaner head, and tilt the handle back.
