The ignition coils are kind of a difficult job, due to their location ; behind the intake manifold. If you follow your plug wires, you'll find two coil "blocks" on the rear side of your manifold. I say the job is difficult, because there is not a lot of room to get your hands in there due to the closeness of the firewall / gap between the top of the manifold and the lip of the engine bay. Remember, DII's are pretty picky about plugs ; and will misfire mainly on (pricey) plugs.

Hi, My Chevrolet optra 2006 Manual misfiring very badly plugs and cables changed. Initially runs well after 30min misfires and engine stops. Engine heat is less than half. No other indicators during...

The fault could be further back in the ignition system. It could be a faulty plug lead or a problem with one or more of the coil packs, (some companies fit single 'multi blocks' and others fit one coil onto each plug).
I think yours will have a multi block coil pack. I don't think they are too expensive, possibly somewhere around the $80 to $100 area. They are easy enough to change your self.
If you are in any doubt get a good auto electrician to go over the car and help you trace the fault. Comment if you need any more help.

Cant get any spark from my coil packs on a 2005 2.7 honda santFe

1st off You have a HYUNDIA SANTE FE not a HONDA so check that you have the correct parts first.

Checking spark on these vehicles requires a special tool which shows the arc in line with the coil and plug.

An important point to keep in mind with respect to all types of ignition coils is that when the magnetic field collapses, the high-voltage surge has to go someplace. If it can't go to the spark plug, it will find another path to ground - which may be back through the ignition module, PCM driver circuit or through the insulation inside the coil itself. This can be very damaging to these parts. So never disconnect a plug wire or COP coil while the engine is running. It can be very damaging as well as dangerous to you should you become the path to ground. When a coil failure occurs on a distributor ignition system, it affects all of the cylinders. The engine may not start, or it may misfire badly when under load. But with multi-coil ignition systems, a single coil failure will only affect one cylinder (or paired cylinders in the case of waste spark DIS systems). 20406.gif On 1996 and newer vehicles, the OBD II system should detect coil problems as well as misfires and generate fault codes that identify the problem coil or cylinder. A misfire code P0301, for example, would indicate a misfire problem in cylinder #1. Of course, misfires can be caused by a lot of things. It could be a worn or fouled spark plug, a weak coil, a bad plug wire or connection in the case of a DIS or CNP system, a dirty or dead fuel injector, or a loss of compression (burned exhaust valve or leaky head gasket). Further diagnosis is always needed to isolate and identify the cause - which creates a problem on multi-coil systems that do not have spark plug wires because you can't observe the secondary ignition pattern unless you use some type of adapters or inductive pickups that fit on the coils themselves.
\ These also have ignition failure sensors that stop the spark if they sense a problem, like when you arc the cil to the block.

This is a very common problem with these vehicles they have a recall on some of them, check the hyundai web site for more info.

I have a 2003 lancer that's putting out po300 misfire code how do find out were its coming from . no turbo

Possible causes
- Faulty spark plug (s)
- Faulty ignition coil (s)
- Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s)
- Intake air leak
- Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted
- Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection
- Ignition coils harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection
- Insufficient cylinders compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
help.jpg What does this mean? Tech notes
The P0300 code means that a cylinder(s) is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks, intake gaskets are common caused of multi-cylinder misfiring. If no leak are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem, see "Possible Causes"

Reasons for cylinder misfires

Ford coil on plug systems are multi strike ignition (spark) under 1300 rpm then go to single strike a single cylinder misfire can be created by several things . #1 Test engine compression on a cranking engine compression it should be around 150 lbs but if gauge reads different COMPARE to other cylinders that work fine #2 check engine running compression this will be around 120 lbs then rev over 2000 rpm and check pressure drop again COMPARE to other cylinders that work fine. any drop would indicate valve train problems. #3 All internal engine is fine then external problems are present vacuum leaks and or fuel injection volume is low.

97 blazer is missing from take off at 1000rpm to 2000 then clears out code reader says o2 sencor and multable engine missfire

For the misfires, start by pulling your plugs. They either need to be cleaned or replaced if questionable. Then, you may have a bad coil or coil pack. You can test them with a multi-tester-you'll want resistance values that are specific for your vehicle. Alternatively, you can switch the coil packs around (if you know you have a good one from knowing which cylinders are misfiring and which are firing o.k.) If your misfires change cylinder numbers from swapping, you know you had a bad coil. Other possibilities for misfire could be the electronic ignition module or the pick-up coil inside the distributor(if you even have a distrib.)
FYI: code for o2 sensor means that circuit has a malfunction, may be the sensor itself, or a wiring problem. Good luck.

How much will it cost to fix cylinder 2 misfire?

i don't know how match the cost, but it will he you, first change the position of the ignition coil to another coil also the spark plug, read the misfire code is it P032 or replace the code, if on cylinder 2 again appear the misfire check the compression, if ok go to electrical and check wires go and from to cylinder two coil to pcm, check the ground on #2 coil, if all this ok, see the difference reading by multi tester to coil reference if all good, reprogram your pcm, or replace if necessary

96 bmw 740il misfire

This is a pretty common problem. I would change your valve cover gaskets. They run around ~ 50 bucks. If they are bad it will leak oil into spark plug well and cause a misfire. Very known on the 740.. Also if tune was not anytime not too long ago id change spark plugs while you at it. Then clear the computer and if you still get misfire on 8 try changing the ignition coil which is right about the cylinder with cylinder ignition coil 5. clear the computer. if you get random misfire and misfire cyclinder 5 after then its your ignition coil. parts store runs around 100 bucks

Multiple misfire cyl 3 cyl 6

your vehicle uses a wasted coil pack so two cylinders fail together using that coil so change the coil pack sounds like the favorite to me 3 and 6 are the two cylinders using the same ignition coil
