Clearing the Maintenance Count and Service Message: HP LaserJets
If the display panel on your HP LaserJet reads "Perform Printer Maintenance", "Perform User Maintenance", "Maintenance Kit Low", "Maintenance Kit Very Low", or anything along those lines it means your printer needs a preventative maintenance kit, which includes a fuser and various rollers. Once you have installed the maintenance kit the message will only go away if you clear the maintenance count.

This maintenance kit consists of a fuser, pick up rollers, transfer rollers. On this model you can also reset the maintenance count by entering the service mode and sometimes by scrolling down to the config menu until you see resets.

Here is the instructions to reset the fuser maintenance count:

1. Press the ? button until the display reads "CONFIGURE DEVICE" and press ?.
2. Press the ? button until the display reads "RESETS" and press ?.

This should reset your printer and clear the error message.

When page count approaches 200,000 pages printed, the device alerts to order a maintenance kit. The message can be temporarily cleared by using the Clear Maintenance Message item on the Resets submenu under Administration. When the page count reaches 200,000, the message can no longer be cleared and the maintenance kit must be installed. To check the number of pages that the device has printed since new maintenance-kit components were installed, print either a configuration page or a supplies-status page. The print-engine maintenance kit includes the following items:

• Fuser
• Rollers (transfer, feed and separation)
• Separation pads
• Installation instructions

A maintenance kit(feed rollers, transfer roller, fuser) should be installed every 200,000 pages.
If you look at the "configuration" page, left column about 1/4 of the way down you will get the page count and when the last kit was installed.

The kit will come with instructions for installation and resetting the page count.
It is an easy printer to maintain.

Yes you will probably have to replace the fuser. If this is a new printer still under warranty and the page count has not reached the service life of the fuser, contact HP for warranty replacement. Once the new fuser in installed you will need to restore the service count.

Restoring the maintenance count after installing new fuser.

This printer tracks the number of pages printed on the fuser, and a reminder message will appear when the fuser reaches a certain page count. The message will instruct you to replace your fuser. Whenever you install a new fuser, you should reset the fuser page count so the warning message will not appear prematurely.

To reset the fuser count :
1. Press MENU to enter the MENUS.
2. Press Down arrow to highlight Configure Device.
3. Press Checkmark to select Configure Device.
4. Press Down arrow to highlight RESETS.
5. Press Checkmark to select RESETS.
6. Press Down arrow to highlight RESET SUPPLIES.
7. Press Checkmark to select RESET SUPPLIES.
8. Press Down arrow to highlight NEW FUSER KIT.
9. Press Down arrow to select NEW FUSER KIT.
10. Press Down arrow to highlight YES.
11. Press Checkmark to select YES.

The fuser count will be reset and then the printer is ready to use.

2. Press and hold the Go and Return buttons.
3. Turn the printer on.
4. Release the buttons when "Performing Self Test" displays on
the operator panel.
This counter is reset by the servicer after a "80 Scheduled
Maintenance" message displays (300K copies) and a maintenance
kit is installed.
To view the Maintenance Page Count:
1. Select Maintenance Count Value from the diagnostic menu.
2. Press Return to go to the previous menu.
To reset the Maintenance Page Count to zero:
1. Select Reset Maintenance Count. Pressing Select causes the
maintenance page counter to reset to zero.
- Reset Maintenance Count Saved displays momentarily.
When the reset operation is complete, the menu returns to
the Printer Setup Reset Maintenance Count screen.

2. Pressing Select resets the maintenance page counter to zero.
Reset Maintenance Count Saved displays momentarily. When the reset operation is complete,
the menu returns to the Printer Setup Reset Maintenance Count screen.

To reset the maintenance-kit counter
1 Turn the MFP off and then on.
2 When the memory count appears on the control-panel display, press and hold 6 until all three
LEDs flash once and then stay on. (This might take up to 20 seconds.)
3 Release 6 and then press 3.
4 Press 6 to select NEW MAINTENANCE KIT.
5 The MFP completes its initialization sequence. The maintenance-kit counter is automatically reset.
