It looks like a firmware upgrade was attempted and it failed in process. When the printer was restarted int prompted this error.
I have included a link to an HP Document that addresses this issue with steps and screen shots to walk you through the process. If you are still having trouble and this printer is under warranty contact HP Customer Service. They may be able to further assist you, send out a technician, or replace the formatter with upgraded firmware.

Hello, the dreaded 49.2F9D Error Turn Power On/Off and other related 49 Errors.

This tip relates to the Hewlett Packard P3005 Series Printer - General reference to most HP Laser Printers

There have been many reports of this error in the HP genre of laser printer. This is a generic fatal error; the root cause is undetermined in most cases. It could be related to an application "corrupt data" or faulty printer firmware, or the formatter board or other associated hardware or accessory.

The first step in troubleshooting this error is to isolate the printer from any computer source - disconnect from any I/O ports, Network/USB etc... Power cycle the printer. Does the error still report? If NO then an application may be causing the error, try to isolate the file causing the problem. Clear any pending print jobs. If YES then Firmware/Formatter most are the problem. A new firmware file can be found here. P3005FIRMWARE

Pay close attention to PDF files with embedded JPEG files.

Pay close attention when printing Emails or Web Pages.

In rare circumstances the fuser has been reported to cause the 49.2F9D error. (P3005 specifically)

This error message prompts when paper or obstruction holds a sensor switch or toggle open in the paper path. Paper can jam a sensor and make it think there is a jam when there isn't one.

Action:

1. Start printer and listen for motor startup noises.
2. Open top cover and remove toner cartridge and thoroughly check for small pieces of paper parts. Also locate the plastic sensor and inspect for proper movement.
3. Open the back cover and remove the fuser by pinching on the blue release catches and pulling the fuser out. Should have an exit sensor - check for proper movement and/or obstructions.
4. Remove tray 2 and make sure the paper adjusters are set to the paper size being used. Many times they go out of adjustment when paper is changed. Do not set to any.
5. Fold a legal size or bond sheet of paper in half and then again the long way. We now have a tool that we can floss the paper path. Thread it through from above the tray 2 pickup and reach it from the top. Work it up and down while sliding it forth and back along the path. It should dislodge and clear the mystery obstruction.

It's possible the fuser has been changed out and the incorrect replacement has been installed. You will want to confirm the part numbers if so.

If the DC Controller has been changed you will want to confirm connections.

The page containing the error will automatically be reprinted. 2. Turn the printer off and then on. 3. Reseat cables to the laser/ scanner and engine controller. 4. Replace the laser/scanner. open back door and remove any left over seals and check inside near laser cartridge.

Paper has not moved past a certain paper
sensor. <LOCATION> can be one of the
following locations.

? TRAY 2
Remove the tray, and then check the
paper path for obstructions. Perform a
manual sensor test and observe the prefeed
sensor (PS102) status (B). Toggle
the sensor flag to determine if the status
changes.
? TOP COVER
Remove the print cartridge, and then
check the paper path for obstructions.
Verify that the top-of-page sensor
(PS103) and the media width sensors
(PS106 and PS108) are unblocked.
Perform a manual sensor test and
observe the status of these sensors.
Toggle the sensor flags to determine if
their status changes.
? REAR DOOR
Open or remove the rear face-up bin,
and then check the paper path on each
side of the fusing assembly for
obstructions. Remove the fuser, if
necessary. Perform a manual sensor
test and observe the fuser delivery
sensor (PS700) status (C). Toggle the
sensor flag to determine if the status
changes.
? DUPLEXER (only printers with duplex)
Remove the duplexer, and then check
the paper path for obstructions. If the
message persists, replace the duplexer.

Check the paper size and paper type settings, this error usually triggers if your application asks for a certain size or type of paper but that paper is not loaded in the printer. Pressing OK tells the printer just to print on the paper you have loaded.

toner cartridge or fuser or laser/scanner assy

This is a result of the cartridge not reading. Probably bad chip. Replace the cartridge

This maintenance kit consists of a fuser, pick up rollers, transfer rollers. On this model you can also reset the maintenance count by entering the service mode and sometimes by scrolling down to the config menu until you see resets.

This error is very common. Check your feed rollers in tray 2. They are probably worn and giving off a false jam. What is happening is the rollers are not picking up the paper and the sensors is giving off a jam error.

Per HP: 49.xxxx errors are "communication errors" and can be caused by many things:Corrupted driver, corrupted firmware, corrupted print job, bad nic card (your printer has a built in network port), bad memory DIMM, bad formatter board etc etc. Unplug the network cable, power off and then back on..........print a configuration page...........check that the printer sees the network port (if you see the IP address on the EIO page it sees it)...........if it doesn't see it you may have a bad formatter board (the network port is built in it). If the printer works just fine while unplugged from the network, start replacing the network cable, otherwise you need to look into your network.
