Click on Security under Wireless and look for the Security Key or Network Key (Passphrase)

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

Well it has no secruity

  • You can configure WEP or WPA. But you cannot enable both at the same time.
  • You can configure MAC Access Control list and also enable WEP or WPA for additional security.
  • After you enable wireless security features on the router, you must configure your wireless clients with the matching settings. Your wireless clients will not be able to connect to your network unless you configure matching settings.
  • It is recommended you enable these wireless security settings from a computer wired to the router.
    1. Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router.
    2. Open your web browser and type the router IP address of the router (by default, the address is http://192.168.2.1.) in the address bar and press Enter.
    3. Click Login on the top of the page to login to the router. By default the Password is left blank, click Submit.
    4. Click Security under Wireless menu.
      1. Under Security, Select 64 bit WEP (or 128 bitWEP).
      2. Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength). You may also enter a pass phrase and have the router generate a key for you.
      3. Apply the settings. Please write down the key - You will need it later to configure your wireless computers with the same key.

1-In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, admin and password, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.

My router will not connect

Try unplugging your router and your modem. Wait a minute or two. Plug your modem in.Wait for it to finish booting up (or just a few minutes). Now plug your router in and see if you are able to connect.

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard from the manufacturers' website, usually for free, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

To get access, start your browser, and put 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, or other address for your unit, into the ADDRESS bar (not search box) of your internet browser. Every unit has unique access login and passwords, some are admin with no password, some are admin and admin...seek access information from the website of the manufacturer of your unit.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page before you leave it, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping this information to bottom of the router. (Physical access is usually not the security issue.)

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

5. Change the channel of the wireless to 11, and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones. (Big issue, even the neighbors can interrupt).

There are more secure settings available, all the way down to only allowing certain MAC addresses to have access. A MAC address is a digit unique to each and every network card. Like a fingerprint. Most users do not set mac address limits

The security key for the router should be stored ihe computer that was used to configure the router, as well as any computer which made a wireless connection to the router. You should be able to retrieve the passkey from any of those computers, by installing some additional software.

For the computer that configured the router, download and install this program:

For a laptop that connected to the router, download and install this program:

From I read online need

In the back of every router there is a little hole that is used to reset it. Sometimes is just colored different and some times it says reset next to it. It would be the only one. Just use a pen or paper clip and push in gently so the little rubber depressor does not break and hold it in for 30 seconds(make sure you do 30 sec on a watch nut quick counting). Router needs to be ON when doing reset. Once reset is done you might have to disconnect power to it for another 30 seconds but only if your internet is not working. Hope this helps.

Make sure the IP of the Router and the IP of the MAC is in the same scope.
E.G. Router: 192.168.1.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0
Mac: 192.168.1.5 subnet 255.255.255.0
Typically the router acts as DHCP-server and distributing ip-adresses automatically, when a computer is connected. But the the IP can also be set manually.

Lost the paper with wep code and my router

Best is to reset the router (see http://www.fixya.com/support/r7947146-reset_belkin_router).
You will lose all the settings you have (you can get them again from your ISP if you need to).
Alternatively can try to find the wep code this way: http://lifehacker.com/#!5305094/how-to-crack-a-wi+fi-networks-wep-password-with-backtrack but that won't solve the missing router password.
