Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. If you want to connect a device to your wireless router you need to know the wireless settings of the router. The
SSid or
Access Point (Network Name), Security Type: WEP,
WPA,
WPA2 or
Disable and the
Network Key or
Security Key (Passphrase).
To obtain the information needed we need to access the Wireless Settings Page. Follow the steps below.
1. You need to know the ipaddress of your router. You can refer to the manual or check the
Default Gateway of your computer (Make sure that you connect the computer to the router using an ethernet cable for you to get the Default Gateway). Click on
START then
RUN. Type
CMD on the small box on the lower left of the screen. Type
IPCONFIG on the black window and get the value of your
DEFAULT GATEWAY (it starts with 192.168.x.x). If your using Belkin
F5D7231-4 the default ipaddress is
192.168.2.1
2. Open a Browser, Type the
DEFAULT GATEWAY or the
Ipaddress of the router on the address bar of your Browser. It will ask you for a username and password. For Belkin Router it usually ask for a Password. If it ask you for a username and password just leave it
blank.
3. Under Wireless on left of the window select
Channel and SSID
- The
SSID is the name of the network
- You can change the channel to
1,
6 or
11 because this is a
non overlapping channels
- Make sure tht the
SSID Broadcast is
On so that it will be detected by the Computer or wireless device
4. Click on
Encryption, You can select either
WEP, WPA or WPA2 to make it secure or Disable or Open to make it a Hotspot. Then confirm the changes try you wireless machine to connect.
Make sure you connect to your SSID and enter the personalize network key
