If you have another battery definitely give it a try, most likely it won't work either. The problem is probably the fuse located on the DC/DC board that has 'blown' causing there to be no power. Replace the board and the camera should work fine. Canon will probably charge $175 or so for the repair.

Hope this helps.

When I turn on camera the red light comes on,but I can view pics...that area is black?

I recommend you to call Canon on this. Call this number and have them see if they can help. 1-800-652-2666 They may want to have a look at it and then will give you an estimate (they will pay postage both ways if they repair it, otherwise you have to pay the return postage, if you decide not to repair it at all) which you can turn down or opt to upgrade should the camera cost too much. They can give a great upgrade price on a completely repaired camera of your choice of what is in stock. These are called a refurbished cameras, which means it comes with everything as if it was new. Also a warranty, may depend on the model.

My Cannon EOS Rebel camera

Generally, this is a cleaning problem; the same problem with a 40D, in this case, was able to cure it by cleaning the dirt and grit out from under the shutter button that is preventing full contact on the shutter switch.

They used a small strip of CLEAN thin stiff card, with a tiny drop of eclipse fluid on the end, you can bend this card round under the edges of the button; the hole where the shutter button sits is a natural 'dirt bucket'; I would reccommend to try blowing around the button first to get any loose bits out, then run round under the button edge with the card to get any stuck bits out.

Cleaning the muck out from under the button worked for me on more than one occasion, it took 3 or 4 attempts the first time i tried it particularly to get the cardboard the right shape and thickness to bend under the button.

It goes without saying that commonsense with due care and attention is needed when you do it, ie that you do not push hard enough to damage anything. If you look at the design of the button all it does is push a flexible copper strip onto what i presume is a micro switch inside the body.

Any pieces of dirt may easily get under the button and prevent the switch actuating, i would suggest that this problem is much more common than actual switch failure; it is interesting to note that in each case i found the 'sticky shutter button syndrome ' started out intermittantly and got worse.

On one occasion the problem surfaced amost immidiately after i had spilt cake crumbs over the 20D after cleaning the sticky bits out with card with a drop of eclipse fluid problem gone.
Since i now routinely give the shutter button socket a good blow and a quick clean round i havent had the problem return.

I hope the info may help you solve it.

Canon 350D error 99

Err 99 could mean several different things, such as... Memory Card
Lens
Lens contacts....

A few things you can try.
Remove the memory card an enable "shooting with out memory card" and see if you still get the error. If it works your memory card may be bad.
Try another lens if you can
Clean the lens contacts with a pencil eraser (be careful not to get eraser dust in the camera body or in the lens)
I have heard Canon recommend upgrading the camera's firmware (go to Canon's website todownload
the latest firmware and follow Canon's instructions for the upgrade).
I saved the worst for last, Err 99 could be related to the shutter failing which would mean a trip to Canon for repair.
Good Luck

Bought cannon rebel xt 350d

You don't need any special software. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what I said first, you can use any photo cataloging program, such as iPhoto on Mac or Windows Photo Gallery.

My laptop and desktop does not recognize the canon

Hi.

If the camera USB connection was working before and the problem suddenly happened on two different computers, then it is not a matter of driver.
Try removing the camera batteries. Remove both main battery and coin shaped battery. Allow the camera to rest five minutes with no battery. The power drain may resolve issues caused by accumulation of electrostatic charges.

While camera is OFF turn off the desktop, disconnect power cord, connect back and restart. (I don't think the computer is responsible...just in case do PC power drain and restart to do the same on laptop also remove battery).

Connect back the camera using a DIFFERENT USB cable.

If that still does not work, then one of the contact in the camera USB socket may be faulty. Check if there is a bent pin. If there is nothing visible, then one of the solder joints at the back of the camera may have lost connection. In that case the camera must be disassembled and repaired. If you need to send the camera for repair see the number listed on the owners manual or get a quote online here (working days):Repair. An alternative to repair could be using an external card reader.

Do first the troubleshooting suggested at start of my comment.

Regards.

You pressed format on your camera. That meant that you formatted the memory card of your camera. All your pictures are saved on the memory card of your Canon digital camera automatically. So you can recover pictures from memory card with data recovery software.I have a professional program on my computer that can recover data after deeply scanning your memory card to look for lost data you accidentally deleted or formatted. But you had better have stopped using the memory card of your camera. Because, once the pictures were overwritten by new ones, they are gone for good.By the way,you can download it and scan your memory card for free to preview whether your erased photos can be recovered.Get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoverystandard.htm

MTokina lens with Canon Eos

It sounds like the lens isn't properly compatible with your camera which can be common on third party lenses. You can either set the lense and the camera to manual focus and focus the images by hand or sell the lens and find one that works in auto mode with your camera.
