Try using a small pencil eraser or a fiberglass brush on the battery contacts. Do this on just the battery, not the camera contacts. Do very little and try it in the camera again. If it doesn't improve, try a new battery.

it's a type of file. Full out it means Encapsulated PostScript. EPSfiles have 1 page normally, with some extra attributes in it, making it useful for postscript. Usually you can open them in programs like Illustrator and Photoshop (among others).

If so, check the contacts on the lens and in the camera. They should be clean and shiny and have on dent. Only clean with a dry cloth and cotton swab. Never use anything sharp in or close to a camera or lens.

Try formatting the CF card in your computer and if it can be done successfully, return to the camera and try to format it in the camera. If not, then the card is bad or it is too large for the camera to read. Some older cameras have limits to the sizes of cards they can read.
