Hello I have a 1993
your best bet is to purchase service manual from Autozone, Advance, auto parts stores. They handle Haynes & Clymers manuals (they run about $10) or Amazon, Barnes & Noble. I checked online and you're right it's a mystery why the Mazda forums lack that info...
My mx3 smokes alot !!!
Smokes alot out of the exhaust? If thats the case its probly the rings which the motor might need a rebuild. Please be more detailed in your questions.
Car suffered drivers side damage. now acts like it
Sounds like you had a wreck....Check to see if the impact has knocked loose some of the ignition wires.
My guess would be spark related, not timing (unless the impact damage actually physically impacted the engine) in which event, damage to a timing cover could have caused the timing belt to slip on the initial cranking attempt after the impact.
Once it jumps time, then it won't start until the belt's removed, (replaced would be a good idea ) and re-timed.
This is a kind of odd situation, so I hope I've been of some small degree of help.
Good luck!
Hi,i have an mx3 1994 with 1.6l engine the car run
Hello
This kind of problem is often caused by an air leak. Many times it is just one of the small black hoses, but sometimes it can be caused by the intake manifold gasket. If you check all the vaccum hoses and are pretty sure none of them are cracked or leaking, buy a can of spray carb cleaner. You can get this at any auto parts store. Start your engine and spray the stuff near the intake manifold. When you hit the spot where it is leaking you will know because the engine will have a HUGE SPUTTER. You cant miss it. Sometimes you can just tighten the intake manifold bolts, other ttimes you need to change the gasket. Save your can of carb cleaner. The stuff is great for finding vaccum leaks the fast and easy way.
Best of luck
Im looking for a pic of the serp belt so i know
You don't need that. All you have to do is use the 'under over' method.
You see, the pulleys are designed to ride on the 2 different sides of the serpentine belt.
Simply put the flat ungrooved side against the flat pulleys, and put the grooved side on the grooved side of the next pulley, until you've done all but one, the idler or tensioner pulley.
Use a breaker bar to move the tensioner pulley in a way that the serpentine belt can be slipped on.
And that's it.
The distributor on my 1994 Mazda mx3 started
On this model the ignition control module is part of the distributor assembly and they must be replaced as a unit, that is what was smoking, The distributor is listed below. when u remove it make sure u install the rebuilt just like the old one with the distributor rotor pointed to the same cylinder position, it is a very easy job.

When the car is jumped it runs with the cables on
The alternator is not generating enough current to the coil to maintain the spark. This could be a bad coil or a bad alternator or BOTH. When you are connected with cables the extra voltage required as you accellerate the gas pedal is pulled from the DONOR car battery and motor. When running at idle your car DISCONNECTED there is not much demand for power. As you press on the gas the RPM increases requiring more spark than you car can produce and it cant recover... trying to keep up drains what charge there is from being jumped off and the car dies. The fact that it dies leads me to believe the alternator should be your first troubleshooting area... You can test this with a multimeter. You should get 14+ volts coming out of the back of the alternator. The car requires 12 volts to run the engine and the extra volts are put back into the battery as a charge...less than 12 volts is a sign of a bad alternator and can cause your problem.
