Sharp AL 1457
Flashes code L
L1 or L1-00 indicates Scanner movement failure. The scanner is the part under the glass that lights up and moves back and forth. So if you lift up the feeder so you can see the glass, turn the machine off for a few seconds then back on. Watch the movement of the scanner. It should move right and inch or two then back to the left. If all goes well the copier should come to ready. Lay a piece of paper on the glass and press the print button to watch the scanner movement. If it binds up or does not scan correctly there are 2 possibilities.
1) your scanner lock is engaged and is preventing the scanner from moving. Check the clear plastic dial located under the far left upper side of the copier, near where the paper exits the machine. Make sure it is in the unlocked position.
2) Your scanner rail is dirty and dry. This rail can be seen under the glass towards the back of the copier. The scanner rides on this rail. It is very common for these to get dirty and for the grease to dry up causing the scanner to freeze up on the rail. The glass must be removed and the rail cleaned and lubricated.
Just power off then on the copier to reset.

Paper jams does not deliver
check to see if a tiny piece of paper is blocking the paper path. also remove paper from the cassette(which pulls out from the front) and try feeding paper from the tray on the right side. Good luck.
Is there a default IP address for the printer? I
no there is not a detault IP address on a printer - A printer is managed from a PC in your network. You can then share that printer using the print spooler of that PC but all print requests will go through the print spooler PC.

The
MISFEED Indicator blinks when a
MISFEED has occurred. Remove the
misfed paper referring to the the description of
MISFEED REMOVAL beginning on page 65 of the
pdf Manual at:
http://files.sharpusa.com/Downloads/ForHome/HomeOffice/PrintersFaxMachines/Manuals/cop_man_AL2030_AL2040CS.pdf
When the
MISFEED Indicator is blinking you should look closer at the paper feed area (see page 66 of the PDF). You may need to remove the paper tray to find any remnants of paper. If after closing the side cover the light does not stop blinking you will need to follow through as per the illustrated instructions.
Remember after removing jammed paper,
you need to press the clear key to clear the MISFEED error.
If after doing all this the error signal has not cleared, power down the printer; unplug from the power supply; let rest 5 - 10 minutes; plug back i to power supply; turn printer on and see if
this resolves issue.

To reset the H4 condition on Sharp AL series copiers press the following key's in sequence and as quickly as possible (with 4 seconds for the first 4 keys)

Some model's use 2 other initial codes, so you may need to use one of these 2 alternate codes to get your display to go blank. The rest of the procedure is the same.
Alternate codes are: #, * , C, * or pound,star,C,star and also
#, Interupt, C, Interupt
If done correctly the display should go blank.
Now key in 14 as if you were going to make 14 copies.
Now press the print button.
The machine should reset and the code should be gone.
9 times out of 10 this is a false code that pops up due to power surges or noise.
If the code comes back this means you have a heater lamp or thermal fuse (more common) failure in the fusing area and will need service. Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya. WheatlandServices

What does L 1 mean on my Sharp AL-1540CS Also E 7.
The L1 is for a scanner movement failure. The scanner bar that maoves back and forth under the glass is not moving as it should. The E7 is for a scanner lamp reference failure which CAN be caused by the scanner movement failure so I would try and resolve the L1 first. I have a tip posted here at Fixya that resolves the L1 so try that first and it may fix both problems. If not just comment on this and I will try and help you resolve any remaining issues.
Here is the link to the L1 solution:
