Our Garmin didn't turn on. We unplugged it, pushed the reset button on the bottom and then plugged it in again and it WORKED

I've looked for free map upgrades for my Garmin and could not find anything. I did find a lifetime map upgrade deal for around $75. It allows you unlimited upgrades for as long as you own the GPS. Go to the garmin site and search NUMaps.

Get a USB card reader with a microSD slot. There are a lot of choices. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Portable-Reader-RS-MMC-Micro/dp/B006T9B6R2 is the simplest type. Others have a USB cable. More expensive models have a detachable (replaceable) USB cable. See https://www.amazon.com/sd-card-reader/s?k=sd+card+reader for more models. Most of these do not need special drivers to work with most OS versions. (Note: I don't know about ChromeOS drivers. Most Unix versions will mount the reader easily.) I've seen B&H Photo Video (bhphotovideo.com) sell various SD and microSD cards with the card reader included for free. There are also SD adapters for the microSD cards so you can get a reader without a microSD slot. Cindy Wells (my household has several USB card readers. Some are USB 3.0 and the others are older USB 2.0 models. You do need to be very careful handling the card and put it into the reader with the correct orientation. I've seen the microSD cards get damaged when someone moves them between slots.)

This unit comes with a charger (AC). There is alxo a car charger. Both have a USB connecter that plugs into the side of your unit.

Easy Steps to Upgrade Garmin Nuvi 255w: Firstly, Install the Updates manually. Connect the USB cable to your pc and then to the Nuvi. Launch The Garmin Express Software on your device. Download Garmin Express from Garmin and install to your PC. Plug your GPS into your PC, Garmin Express should identify your GPS and give you options to update maps and software.

Download Garmin Express and install it to your PC. Connect your device to your PC. Garmin Express will identify it and allow you to install all the maps and software that the device has a subscription to. It will also allow you to register the device.

In Garmin Express go to device then optional updates then Voices then English then to the bottom of the page and add to device

After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"

Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

This is usually done through a computer or laptop. Create an account on the Garmin website. Connect your Sat-Nav to the computer. You should be able to download the updates through your account.

Disconnect it, power off and plug it into the computer again. Or, if you aren't in the middle on an update, reset it. Some have a red button on the back. Google make model reset All the manuals are online.

Go to Garmin and download and install Garmin Express, Plug your GPS into your PC. The GPS should power on and Garmin Express should identify it and tell you of any updates. If the GPS does not power on (it should go into usb mode), then contact Garmin for warranty work. You can also check the power adapter in your vehicle. If the red light does not come on, the adapter either has a blown fuse or went bad, causing your GPS battery to be discharged. It is quite possible that your battery is discharged. You might leave it plugged into your PC overnight if the battery is dead.

Have you tried doing a hard reset,try using the reset button on the bottom of the gps under the serial label.Or try holding the turn off button for about 10 seconds,good luck.

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 660 and cannot figure out how to charge the unit. Help!!!!

I have the problem solved I at first had this problem after about 5 minutes of messing with my GARMIN NUVI and having many electronic gadget I thought about diffrent buttons to hit at the same time heres how you charge your NUVI with a computer and a usb cable

1st: make sure your NUVI is OFF then plug in the usb cable from the computer to the NUVI, after you hear your computer ding from new device connected, and the NUVI displays the computer icon move to step 2

step 2: if you have xp go to START and MY COMPUTER. with vista its START then COMPUTER button on the right side

step 3: with MY COMPUTER window open hold the NUVI power switch to the ON position and RIGHT CLICK the NUVI device logo (blue triangle) and select EJECT .. ( DON;T HIT SAFiLY REMOVE)

step 4: when you see GARMIN display on the screen you can letgo of the power button on the NUVI ****** if you unplugthe usb it will display message stating EXTERNAL POWER LOST SWITCHING TO BATTERY POWER***** while it is plugged to the computer the battery meter will disaper

To obtain your free map upgrade you will have to register the device with garmin. here is a link to a manual I wrote telling you how to do so. After you have done this you will be provided with the update VIA download.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi running like new:

1. Back up your Favorites.
2. Perform a Hard Reset.
3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.
