If you connect the unit to your computer via the cord to usb input, the computer will recognize the device (if still good after the mishap) and using windows explorer you can go into its memory , locate, and extract the material you want. If electronics also got trashed then you are SOL.

Go to the Garmin site and look for SUPPORT. You should be able to download the app and the drivers and reinstall. Be sure it's for the right model of Garmin and the right Operating System for your computer.
