try this for Garmin GPSMap 178C Unable to acquire satellites with a GPSMAP 172/178 There could be a few causes of the device not acquiring satellites. If the device has moved a large distance since the last time it has acquired satellites or has been turned off for longer than a few weeks or months, the device may not be able to acquire the satellites correctly. The first troubleshooting step is to perform an Auto Locate procedure. This procedure will clear the device's memory of previous satellite information, and try to download new information. Note: This will not clear any user data like waypoints, routes, and tracks. To perform the Auto Locate procedure, please follow these steps:

1. Start with the device powered OFF
2. Press and hold the Page button and Power ON the device
3. Continue to hold both the Page and Power button until the I Agree button is highlighted in the lower right corner of the screen
4. Press the Enter button

The device should now switch to the GPS satellite screen. Leave the device in clear view of the sky for at least 10-20 minutes to acquire satellites. If the device acquires the satellites before 20 minutes, the device can be used or powered off. If the Auto Locate procedure does not correct the issue, the next step is to update the internal operating software of the device to the latest version. I had the same problem. In your settings you can set this thing to monitor your battery's power so it auto shut down if your battery goes below 11.2 volts or so. I disabled this and it has worked ever since.

You can always try using a rubber band to help the points grab. Only other option would be to get a dremel and file the tops from the screws then remove them after you have the cover off.

hi, I don't know if you managed to solve the no Vietnamese language directions for the garmin gps but here is one way to do it.

[1]-Go to this link, download and install the voice studio

[2]-When you run the program there will be a list of all the phrases the GPS unit uses to give u direction. when you record instead of reading the phrase written just say the phrase in Vietnamese( or whatever language you want) and save it.

[3]-Once you record all the phrases on that list in the language
of your choosing, then test hit the test button to make sure
the phrases sound right.

[4]-Finally just send it to your Garmin GPS unit.(Make sure that
your device is connected to your computer when you send to
the deice though). (Duh!!)

If you bought the satnav in the USA it won't work in Europe. If you bought it in Europe you can download the maps but the full map of Europe won't fit on it. You can fit Western Europe or add and remove countries as you need them. It's probably not a satisfactory solution when traveling with a motor home. You can put the map on an SD card but the nuvi 200W has problems reading maps from SD cards of 2 Gb or more. The map of Europe would take a 4 Gb card to hold it all.

You would probably be better to buy a cheap satnav of Europe. You can get them from http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/xx/617/xx/1914/23/criteresn.html?sSortInfo=Prix-ASC
if you want to buy on line or Halfords shops if you prefer to deal with someone face to face. Some of them cost less than €100 and would be near the same price as buying the map of Europe.

Or if you want a satnav that covers both the USA and Europe and will work in both the Garmin nuvi 1370 or the 2370 would do the job but costs a bit more.

Download Garmin Web Updater, you probably need to install English again. It will help you do that Www. Garmin. Com/software

You need the correct battery or the time it has on its own power may be comprimised.
