GFCI or RCD tripping is either moisture has entered the motor body or there is a wiring fault. Neither of which would I consider a warranty issue especially noting the age. Call an electrician to diagnose the fault first then take it from there.

The float switch went bad... probably because of the water...you could replace it, but the parts are hard to get and with the time involved it will be easier and cheaper to replace it...

I had an old Intermatic TN111 indoor timer with the red & green trippers laying around. I just drilled out the plastic plugs holding it together and popped out the timer motor. The timer motor is mechanically identical to the Malibu pool/lighting timer whose timer motor died..
