Had a plumber put in a kohler diverter and now when I turn on the water after not turning it on for 10 minutes or so I hear a pronounced click sound that I didn't hear before. When I turn it on and off consecutively I don't hear it. The plumber said maybe I need a new faucet. I don't think so, since mine is only about 5 or 6 years old. What are your thoughts?

Don't pay that Plumber or for the part he or she put in.
Get a new Plumber that knows what he or she is doing and have them put in a new correct factory part.
Your right it it should not be doing that.

Diverter

Hi! Yes it sounds like the spray diverter needs replacing. Kohler .com will have this part online or you could try a plumbing supply shop.

I changed out my Kohler shower diverter cartridge because it was leaking after doing so when you open any faucet in the house it will leak the more faucet you turn on the faster it leaks. The lady plumber...

did your old diverter have a shut off knob on it? if so you may have not noticed it leaking, -what causes that is the existing shower faucet may have been mounted to high from the spout below -or the pipe going down from existing fixture to the tub faucet spout pipe may not be at least 3/4", -if its 1/2" it will always do that

Can i put a fluidmaster 400A in a Kohler Rialto

Save that valve... !
Use a fluidmaster (diaphram) part #242 as a replacement substitute!!
Easier than most pill bottles... !!!
(turn off the water)
The valve seems to be very thin plastic but mine lasted 20 years before needing a new diaphram. I cold hear the water going (seep. seep, seep))... and changed the flapper valve... Wrong!
I actually bought the new white plastic one to experiment on... but never got that far... Great price ($26) from Amzn (new spare... still in box)

The white VALVE (right) end of the 1068030 twists off easier ... over the top (clockwise: less than 1/8 turn... there is a little white lock bar on the very back that has to be pressed in to allow rotation).
Ignore the (blue) float lever... you wont be turning anything that far.
The expensive & unavailable KOHLER diaphram can be substituted with a $2 FLUIDMASTER #242 diaphram... available everywhere... Home Depot, ACE, General Plumbing Supply...
(Amazon = $4 +/- shipping, (local "dealer" had nothing in stock... of course)).
Kohler.com ships for a whole lot more!
Sadly... THAT very SAME FLUIDMASTER #242 will also fit in the "Kohler 703" valve everybody seems to be throwing away (the easiest valve I have ever repaired).
The GRAY "703" valve seems to be very thin plastic but mine lasted 20 years before needing a new diaphram.
That is a hard twist 1/8 turn: counter-clockwise... same #242 diaphram... 5 minute job!
Six minutes if you hold a cup over the valve and rinse it out like you are supposed to do...

Daewoo side by side no water

Could it be that the plumber installed the water line but then did not turn the water on? That's what it sounds like. The sound you hear is just the solenoid valve. It just uses the static water pressure of the household -- no pump.

Kohler rite temp with diverter. When the tub is turned on water leaks out the shower head. Changed the diverter didn't fix problem.

You could have a restriction in the tub spout or just too much pressure. Diverter only restricts flow to tub spout so any restrictions to the tub spout will cause water to go up to shower head.

Faucet issue

Sounds like it was installed upside down or the cartridge is installed improperly

Kohler KT12007 Showerhead

The device which directs the water up or down is called the diverter. Your diverter is not fully up or fully down. Rather forcefully push and pull the diverter a few times and your problem may be solved. good luck.

Kohler K-9511-BN MasterShower Shower Arm & Diverter Doesn't Work

As a helpful hint , on these models, When installed some plumbers or home owners use plumbers putty to seal the threads and in some cases tape.
Most of the time the putty or tape gets pushed through the system if too much was used.
Check by removing the shower head and testing the pressure and blowing anything else through, then checking the head itself for foreign objects.
Kohler has a cleaning and care page on thier web site if it needs cleaned.
