If the black line appears ONLY when copying and NOT when printing then you need to clean the adf strip glass. This is the thin strip of glass that is just to the left of the large original glass. Clean this glass very well with a soft cloth and glass cleaner. The line is caused by a small particle stuck to this strip of glass.

if you print a report and there is no line its the adf **** glass so clean it with a rag and glass cleaner

Sounds like it needs service.

The life expectancy meters are just general measurements. They only indicate when it is time for a Service Tech to come by a review the parts. If you are having that type of imaging problems you need a Tech to look at it.
