A high pitched loud hum (about a C) is coming from the freezer

I have a GE side by side. The hum develops after being on a while.
It is so strong, it can be heard on the second floor and outside. I
checked the fan and it was O.K. The number settings have no effect.

That is your compressor. The bearings in them go bad and overheat. Sometimes it will even keep the compressor from restarting. You need a compressor.

SOURCE: A side by side GE refrigerator with a loud hum

Hello Kchoffman73,

It sems we developed the same problem.
The hum seems to be coming from the bottom rear of the
fridge.

we have a GE side-by-side model TFX25JR.
The fridge is about 12 years old.

Whats the status of your fridge ? Did it ever stop
humming ? Did you replace or repair it ?
Does it still work ?

Thanks

SOURCE: My Hotpoint makes a high pitched humming noise all the time.

Hi,

This noise is most likely coming from the evaporator fan motor that is located behind the panel just below the ice maker. There is an air duct that the fan blows through to cool the ice maker that is why the sound is heard in the ice maker area more.

The noise does not hurt anything but the motor can be replaced if it gets too annoying, it is a fairly common complaint. The part number for the motor is WR60X10185 and runs about $60.00. It is a bit challenging to get to but can be done with a bit of patience by removing everything in the freezer and taking the back panel off the inside of the freezer.

take off the bottom back panel of the fridge, there's a condenser fan in there, something could have jammed into it when you cleaned and the fan motor is humming because it can't spin, check this right away, this is what cools down the compressor if it's the problem

Freezer side is making an extremely loud humming sound. Ice maker is working fine. No ice buildup anywhere in the freezer that we can see. Loud humming goes on for a few minutes each hour.

Hey Joanne, I appreciate your inquiry!

Based off my understanding the freezer side of your Frigidaire refrigerator is making a loud humming noise. The humming sound could be coming from your compressor. If the sound is a new development it may be a possible issue with the fan pushing further against the wall. You may need to seek help from a professional technician for proper diagnosis and repair. This will help you from purchasing any unnecessary parts. Hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

Loud humming noise

Stick you hand in the freezer, touch the back wall of freezer, see if you feel a strong or lite vibration equal to the hum you are hearing. If so, the you have a bad evap fan, if not then pull unit out from wall and see if hum is load toward the bottom rear portion of the frig, if so contact a repair tech.
