Probably carb is gummed up ,a bad plug can do it also,a more rare would be coil.
Probably needs the inside of the gas bowl cleaned...Whats happening is its burning more gas than its getting..As it sits a little bit of gas in going into bowl...As you crank it its using more than its receiving..Sea form works wonders..But after each season by some led and put it in the gas...It makes the gas stay fresh for starting motor for the next year

possible motor overheat ..if unit has a lot of lint or has had vent problems now or in past lint may have accumilated around motor and caused it to overheat and shut off.. probably to late to save motor
Dump the fuel in the tank, get new gas and new oil and start over. Get a carbeurator cleaner additive for the gas as your carb. is dirty resulting in the sporatic operation.
A spray carb. cleaner that you squirt into the air intake by removing the air filter will also work for you. In fact, when you are getting the carb. cleaner get a new air cleaner and a new spark plug. get back and let me know how u make out.

If it's electric, you probably cut the wire internally by kinking it or stretching the iwre beyond it'd capability.
