Some anxers explain the heater/fan in back of panel is not defrosteing ice which in turn stops the fan.
Hello Christine, the actual code your getting is an SY EF failure code. No worries, it happens all the time. The SY stands for System and the EF stands for Evaporator Fan. That means the fan behind the freezer wall is not working properly. The fan may be froze up by water running down from the ice maker, or it just might be burned out. Not sure what model you have, so can't get you proper part number, but that's what that code means.

For instructions on getting a new solenoid valve as well as various other parts, check the parts manual for the refrigerator:

SOURCE: fan runs constantly, freezer ice melting, bottom drawer in refrig
Water dispensing solenoid is bad. You need to replace the solenoid valve. This typically is independent of the ice maker.

Since your refrig is cooling , I would replace the # 4 AND # 5 thermistors . The # 4 thermistor , tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp , when to cycle off , associated with the fan speed also .

Good day,
A step by step procedure should resolve your problem. If the dispenser is working, you can skip that step.
First step is to take a small paper cup of water and fill the cavity until it is near full. With the ice maker turned on, close freezer door and wait 3 hours to see if it harvests. If not, the ice maker is bad, and must be replaced. If the cubes harvest then.......
Three possibilities.
1. The water supply from the house is not delivering water to the water valve. Shut off the house at the meter, disconnect the line going to the water valve, and with the line pointed into a bucket, have someone turn the valve back on for a 15 second count. The water should come out smartly. If not, the line and it's fittings will have to be replaced.
2. The fill tube from the back of the machine that feeds water into the back of the ice maker is frozen up. You will have to remove the ice maker to visually inspect that tube. If blocked, it needs to be defrosted, but use caution. Too much heat too fast will start to melt plastic and vinyl parts you don't want melted.
If this is the case, then once cleaned out, you will have to change the water valve located in the back bottom rear of the machine because it is leaking during the off cycle.
3. If everything checks O.K. up to this point, you will have to purchase and install a new water valve, and install it.
P.S. Under very rare occasions the electric circuity in the ice maker will fail to send a signal to the water valve. Although rare, it can happen, in which case the best option is to replace the ice maker and water valve.

you will need to replace the water inlet valve, this runs your water and ice,, before you replace it take your water line off and hold it in a pot, then have someone turn the water back on , this will let you know for sure you are getting water to the valve,, if no water comes out then you have a water line prob,, have that fixed then hook it back up and turn it on, then you will need to run the water for about 2 -3 minutes to purge the air out of the line,,, if you rplace the valve you will need to purge also
Thank you for your post, Carol!
I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator is displaying an error code of "5Y CE". However it appears that "5Y CE" is an invalid error code. I have noticed the code of "SY CE" and that means there is a communication error at power up. I would recommend performing a reset on your refrigerator and you can do that by unplugging the power cord for at least ten minutes. If that does not correct your issue it could be possible that there is an issue with your main control board, wiring harness, or user interface board. I would then suggest having a professional technician out to perform a proper diagnosis and repair. This will help you avoid any unnecessary part purchases. Hopefully this is helpful. -Matt
