Re- my H5270 ... I have windows Vista installed and when I am able to go to repair windows ... it takes me to safe mode stating my machine was not shut down properly. Then I tap safe mode and it loads my info then it tries to reboot and everything freezes with nothing showing but my mouse pointer. I cannot turn the machine off unless I pull the plug. I do not have a recovery disk for it as it was my deceased mother's computer. sentimental value... thanks everyone.

THE THE THING THAT YOU CAN DO IS HAVE A DIAG DONE ON THE COMPUTER AT A LOCAL COMPUTER SHOP. MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM DIAG ONLY! IT NORMALLY RUNS BETWEEN 25 TO 35 DOLLARS. IF THEY SAY THAT IT IS TOAST LET THEM KEPT IT FOR THE COST AND GO BUY ANOTHER ONE.

SOURCE: eMachine T3120 keeps rebooting

The first time that you run the XP install, when the computer boots you will see "press any key to boot from cd". Do that, let Windows load it's files, etc., then it reboots by itself. When that happens and the computer is starting back up DO NOT respond to the "press any key to boot from cd". Just let it go and Windows will continue by itself. You are not the first or the last to have that problem.
If this does not solve you problem, please do not rate this post until other solutions have been explored, as hardware issues can cause the same problem(s), but try this first.
If you have the wrong disk, there isn't much recourse other than buying a new disk :-(

SOURCE: Windows XP operating system does not load.

You need to repair your windows xp installation.
Insert the xp install cd and power off - then power on your pc.
If the screen says "press any key to boot from cd" then do that.
It takes a while until you get to choose options.
Choose the repair previous installation option by pressing the R key when prompted.
Follow the instructions on the screen and you should be fine.

SOURCE: My Emachine T5010 reboots on Windows loading screen.

Before windows loads press F8 on the keyboard to get an advanced menu.
choose the option that says disable automatic restart on error and see what error you get.
Also try the Safe Mode option.
That click sounds like the harddrive is failing.

Put your Vista CD back in the machine and hit any key to boot off the cd. After windows loads it's files it will ask you what you want to do. Choose repair, it will search for windows installations and list them, there should be only one listed. Highlight it and choose repair. Windows will search the installation for problems and attempt to repair them. This make take a minute or an hour depending on the problem. Once it is finished it will tell you to reboot. Take the disc out and reboot the machine. It may be wide when it reboots to try to get it to boot to safe mode first to see if it actually will fire Vista up, if it does great, reboot again and let it go normally.

Vista boots just Black screen with cursor even in safe mode

Yes, this is a known issue with Vista. You need to back-up your data, format your hard drive and re-install Vista from the beginning.
There is really no use trying to repair it: it is damaged.
After you re-install Vista, do not forget to install service packs from microsoft.com.

Hard drive will not completely finish installing Vista Sp1.

Try booting in Safe Mode (press F8 during startup). Once in safe mode, see if you can see the update in the Add/Remove programs from the Control Panel. Make sure the select the "View updates" checkbox.
If it is there, try uninstalling it before you boot in regular mode again.

While in Safe Mode, also disable the automatic Windows update. You can then try to install it manually from the Microsoft site instead.

Microsoft has some more ideas on how to fix SP installation.

also try starting up in safe mode, by tapping f8 before the loading windows screen comes. and select safe mode from there and see if you can get it to start.

try the vista disk it may be able to repair the problem. Try system restore to before you did the updates. (from the vista dvd or from vista safe mode)

Your problem: "I have Windows Vista installed on my laptop."

Unfortunately, as with a lot of MS service packs, they can crash some computers. You need your windows vista disk and, booting from it, you can select repair your vista installation. This should take care of the problem. Then don't update to sp1 for a few months.

Laptop Startup

hi dear

oh so sorry to hear that

this methode for windows Xp

and let try this

Microsoft Windows Vista users Tip: If you are running Safe Mode because you cannot get into Windows you may want to first try loading the last known good configuration. Additional information about this mode can be found on document CH000626
To get into the Windows Vista Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen.
Choose Advanced Options for: Microsoft Windows Vista
Please select an option:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Enable Boot Logging
Enable low-resolution video (640x480)
Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)
Directory Services Restore Mode
Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
Disable Driver Signature Enforcment
Start Windows Normally
Description: Start Windows with only the core drivers and services. Use
when you cannot boot after installing a new device or driver.
