I recently bought a refurbished HP nc6120 notebook PC. Very soon after I noticed the number “1” key sometimes does not work. Very frustrating- Do I need to replace the whole keyboard or is there a simple fix for the problem? Thank you.

If the 2nd slot is not in the bottom of the laptop, then you will find it from under the keyboard.
According to HP specifications of the laptop the memory is Upgradeable to 2048-MB maximum
(1024-MB SODIMM in slots 1 and 2) So yes the laptop does have two memory slots. It will be under the keyboard.
Please let me know if you require further assistance or if you have any questions. Thanks, Ekse
Hi kala_mumbe, I know how you feel as my HP pavilion has had the same blue screen ansking for the 'drivelock multibay password' . the good news is i have fixed it just 5 mins ago. I think that you have to get into the bios first. Lets see if I can show you how I helped it to boot up:
at the blue screen I pressed the F10 Key which took me into setup
i then selected the security tab
and then I think I selected drivelock password
and then selected the "Notebook hard drive" item where I tried to disable, with no success
PLEASE NOTE: at this point I noticed that each time that i tried to disable the password it kept returning to the item 'Notebook hard drive' . I thought to myself that maybe this is the password and not just an item on the list, so I carefully wrote down .. Notebook hard drive .. taking note of capitalization and spaces and then exited setup.
I then noticed that there was nowhere to enter the password so i carefully typed .. Notebook hard drive .. onto the keyboard, and waited. After about 1 min a small 'OK' appeared inside the blue box and my heart leaped for joy inside my chest.
I waited... and a black screen apeared with the wite cursor blinking
and I waited... this time about 5 mins passed and then windows started to load. Thank God!
I hope you get some joy out of this post and it's not too late for your Campac Laptop. happy, happy Darryn Hope www.darrynhope.com
You can help isolate the problem by plugging in an external keyboard,. If the problem is not there on the external but present ( at the same time) on the internal then you will need to disassemble the laptop and look at the HP part number on the underside of the keyboard and order one from ebay etc.. make sure its the exact part number as many look identical but the cables dont line up.
This is generally a sensitivity issue with the keyboard. It's usually caused when the rubber depressors that activate each key start getting worn. Sometimes you can take each key off individually, take off the rubber depressor and clean the contact point on the keyboard and up inside the depressor where it makes contact. Clean it with with rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. This is alot of work and only fixes the problem about 60% of the time. Your only other option is replacing the keyboard.
i dont see how a usb port can actually be related to your sound but maybe the best solution right now is to simply replace your usb port as it might have been damaged by your external usb keyboard
The number lock is engaged on your laptop keyboard. usually that is FN+F11 keys or number lock is on by default in the BIOS setup. Check and see which F1-F12 key looks like a number pad
