Printer does not print. Message is "scanner failure" also a pop up that says "automatic doc. feeder is empty." I switched from a pc to an imac about 4 months ago, and it worked fine with my photosmart printer. The only thing I've done differently recently was put in new cartridges.

    I don't know how to "reload the printer driver" - any suggestions? (I'm a 72 yr. old)
    also the scanner being "locked"? It seems to move. However there is paper jam after paper jam - but I don't get a paper jam message.

    There is enough paper. The scanner message comes on in the window of the HP Photosmart  2610. The "automatic doc. feeder isempty" comes onto the computer screen. (I've been using this printer for 4 years)

    I've answered these questions. Yes, there is enough paper in the paper slot and the maker is HP model number 2610 photosmart.

You just need to run the setup CD for the printer that you have and that should correct the problem...

could you please first check that your printer is compatible with MAC
now, you have 2 errors one with the scanner which isn't recognised I recommend you remove the software and driver and install it back on again. makesure that any lid, cover is properly closed or in position.

makesure there are no jobs waiting in the que, it seems that the Autofeeder has a job to do and there is no paper for it to feed on to scan or print.

these errors all relate to a software problem.

    then its an internal error with the printer, I suggest you power it off and check all doors, legs panels ect by opening and closing them again then turning it on. remove any cables except the power one whilst doing this. is there a reset button? try it

Make sure you have enough paper in the automatic doc feeder slot.Also do you get the scanner failure on the computer or the scanner.

please also provide the brand and model.

Check that the scanner is not locked.

    Start checking that the scanner is not locked, many scanners on all in one have a lock switch at the bottom.

    If the scanner is not locked , then it is a setting problem or a software problem.

    The best way to fix the problem is trying to reinstall the printer driver.

    If you do not have the printer disk, or if the disk is outdated, better to download the drivers from the manufacturer website.

    If you give me the make and model of the printer I can give you the exact link to the download page with updated drivers for your printer.

Lexmark X5495 paper jamming in automatic feeder
It is possible that the hinge that popped out is causing some trouble feeding the paper into the printer. That may be difficult to repair on your own and Lexmark does not have replacement for that part. You can try to have it repaired in some shops.

I get the message that says "no paper in auto
Not sure if you get this message on the machine or in the software on you PC. It could be a software setting if it's on the PC that tells it where to pull the docs from. If it's a scanner message it could be an object blocking the paper sensor telling it something is in the feeder. Check the feeder paper path for anything that does not belong there or carefully blow out the paper path with compressed air. Sometime dust collection does this.

Try to print--scanner failure appears
I think your printer has been, for some time now, trying to tell you something and the scanner failure message
is the last in a series of messages.

First, the copier and the printer and the scanner worked fine, "for years",
Then, the copier stopped accepting scans, while printing from data sent by your computer.
Then, you received a scanner failure message again, and will not accept data from your computer, and
"won't print at all"

Your printer/scanner/copier/fax has needed service for some time after years of continuous service.

Evaluate now, based on its initial cost and the lesser cost of All In Ones whether you have already
obtained sufficient service to amortize the cost over time, and you may conclude that service is eitherr
cost effective or ineffective at this time.
