I am on my second printer with the error. Epson explained it is a motherboard failure. The error is not caused by a PC or the software on it. Instead, this is a printer hardware failure. After exchanging the printer, the replacement printer has now dies from the same error. The problem starts as blurry printing and progresses to the full hardware failure. Once the Hardware fails and you get the error code, there is nothing an end user can do. The motherboard needs to be replaced. My printers were working fine up until I swapped out the factory cartridges that shipped with the printer. In both of my cases, there were no issues or symptoms until I started using the Epson XL cartridges. As soon as I installed those, the symptoms started to show. Within a couple of months after swapping in the XL cartridges, the motherboard dies. Options: 1) Call Epson and complain, make them log the details even if it is out of warranty. This helps establish the pattern and knowledge of the issue. 2) Swap printer if under warranty. They may want a credit card to charge in case they do not receive the bad printer back. Just resend it in the box the replacement came in. Epson supplies shipping labels and covers the shipping costs.

Ink levels are set by chips on the ink carts. You may be able to reset the chips with a "chip resetter", but that's not really recommended. Get refillable carts with automatic resetting chips...

If you are lucky, the 0xF4 error indicates a foreign object (a scrap of paper) in the gears. That would translate to PF driver mechanism overload. Another cause would be a contaminated encoder scale. However, the 0xF4 error could mean that the encoder board or the motor have failed. These errors can only be fixed by a service technician. Two places to check and make changes. One is on the printer menu itself. Hit menu and navigate to print options. The second will be on your computer. When you go to print something a menu will pop up for a printer selection. It will also have an advanced button. Hit that and it will get you into an area to change the printing in multiple ways.

When printer's ink pads full then you need to be changed. Do you know what is waste ink pads? In the printing process, the printer produces waste ink that has to go somewhere and it send through a tube to ink pad where it is collected. Don't worry! You can easily reset/replace the water ink pad: Step1: Remove viewing panel on the back of your printer's right side. Some other printers it will be rectangular panel, and on others it will be right side of the printer. Use a Philips head, or screw driver to remove it. Step2: Now you can find the ink waste tubes. It is easy to locate because they will be two clear tubes running side by side into the ink waste reservoir. Some printers will only have one tube. One end of the tubes will be attached inside the printer and the other ends will be loose. Pull the loose ends of the tubes through the panel opening. You may need to use needle nose pliers to accomplish this if you cannot easily grasp the tubes with your fingers. Step3: After that remove the old pad. Wear rubber gloves when you remove it. Using the pliers, pull the pad out of the printer and set it aside. Clean out the reservoir by pushing paper towels into it and letting them soak up the ink. Step4: Now you can replace the pad. You may also try cleaning the old pad by letting it soak in a large bowl of hot water then squeezing it out. Make sure it is completely dry before putting it back in the printer. My Epson XP-7100 would not print Avery labels no matter what settings I used for the paper, weight, format in the printer properties. So I used the PRINT function in Word and did "Microsoft Print to PDF". Then I used the resulting pdf and printed it onto the label sheet in my Epson XP-7100. Worked great. Does seem that if Epson printers can't print using the label file in Word, that at least Epson would put a work-around solution on their website. I had to figure this one out on my own. Although it is easy and relatively quick to do, I took a lot of time to come up with a way to print my Avery labels. Epson, get on the ball!
