Carriage returns-why

It could be due to the cartridges or the encoder strip (transparent strip found behind the cartridge carrier) has gotten loose from its position. Please follow steps below to identify and fix the problem:

1. Open the printer cover and remove both the cartridges. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer/unplug the printer from the power source and then slide the carrier to the center.

2. Check the encoder strip and make sure it is secured in its place.

3. Close the printer cover.

4. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

5. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.

6. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.

7. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge.

8. If no error appears, try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

There's an OCR software bundled with the Lexmark software. You can install that from the installation CD for your printer.

X5495 - OCR Program Missing.

Do you have MS Office 2003 or 2007? If so, there is a Microsoft Document Imaging tool that you can use to scan text documents. You can also search www.download.com for free OCR tools you can use for the same purpose.

Printer won't print from computer

Try the steps below to clear the print queue and restart your print spooler:1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the print spooler service)2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the print spooler service) Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

The compuer is not connected

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

You may also try to update your printer driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/hsBChY. Select your operating system, download and execute the file.

Lexmark X5495 paper jamming in automatic feeder

It is possible that the hinge that popped out is causing some trouble feeding the paper into the printer. That may be difficult to repair on your own and Lexmark does not have replacement for that part. You can try to have it repaired in some shops.If not, try to contact Lexmark technical support center for your options. Thanks.

When i go to print my paper gets caught in the

There could be something blocking the paper path. Please follow steps below to fix the problem:


1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.

2. Grab a flashlight and look inside the feeder for any debris or foreign objects.

3. If you're willing and physically able, you may also turn the printer over. Any debris should just freely roll out from the feeder.

4. If feeder is clear, place the printer back on the table, open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.

5. Check the cartridge area for any obstructions/debris in the cartridge carrier's path or the paper path.

6. If cartridge area is clear, close the cover.

7. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

8. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and load some paper. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

When you tried to install the printer did the computer recognize that you plugged it in? Does the printer power up? Make sure the USB cable is all right. Also try another USB port on your computer.
