I have a desk top ASUS that is connected to a wireless network connection (2) with Belkin PCI wireless N adapter and I am having problems keeping a constant connection to the internet. Together we have a pc connected directly to the router and two wireless cpu's. My son helps me with this and he guesses that the IP# on my computer tries to copy his PC IP# which is connected directly to the router. Every once in a while, I do not get any wireless signal connection on just my computer and my son will do a DNS Flush and DNS Renew, it will work for a few days and then again cease to function. What is the real issue? and what i can i do to permanently fix the issue?
He is on the right tack only the command is ipconfig /release and renew. DNS flush is for domain name, and most homes only connect via IP.
Tried that as well but its only a short term solution, What is the real issue and are there any permanent solutions?
As you mentioned the issue is IP conflict. This is caused when a Dynamic IP get re-assigned after a node has been shut off or restarted. Setting a Static IP will resolve this, but entails manual config on all items connected. Try this. *On Belkin web admin check LAN Settings > Lease Time. Make sure it is set for "Forever". Best of luck.

It might be an idea to upgrade the firmware which can be downloaded from manufacturers' website

Does your connection "drop" on other wireless networks?

Hello,
If wireless adapter on the laptop is fairly old, you may need to update the drivers for the wireless adapter. Some older wireless adapters are not capable of properly communicating with WPA devices. Typically a driver update of the laptop resolves the issue. If not, try another wifi adapter and verify it is not the OS or laptop itself.
Good Luck.
SOURCE: Computer will not connect to internet through router
check the connections between the router and the modem either cable or dsl or whichever
and change the setting in the router interface so you know what the ssid is being broadcasted and the network key

One additional thing to the above, in the Internet Options Dialogue box.
Press sequence Alt, T, O to open Internet Options.
On the "Connections" tab, press "LAN Settings" button there.
On the box that pops up, be shure the checkbox is checked beside, "Automatically Detect Settings"
