Washing machine makes loud thump only at the end of spin cycle

Doesnt matter what setting, size of load, or empty. My washing makes a loud thumping noise at the end of its spin cycle when the basket is slowing down. If I spin the drum by hand there is a noise once per turn, if that helps at all.

OK, you will need to replace the brake shoes on the washer. The job is not that hard. Here are the brakes to order and I included a video to show you how to make the repair.http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/clic...

What is the model number of your unit?

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2012

NTW4500VQ Amana. my husband took the agitator off to reveal the spanner nut. there is metal shavings on the drive block. It seems the notches on the part that the drive block sits on are wore or stripped. I dont know what part that would be but now when we spin the drum we can see that the noise is when the tub turns its going up on on where the notches should be and slipping down off them. he is going to the parts store now.

Replacing the drive block and basket drive shaft today. They were both totally worn out and the cause of the noise. $120 later and we have a noise free washer again.

Rankine, sounds more like a worn drive block that sits under the basket. Usually the brake will not make a thumping sound. Attached is a couple of pictures. Check this out first...Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: Washer makes loud thumping after finished spin cycle

Remove washer cabinet (easy to remove)and check that "base pads" (there are 3 pads, located under the main tub)are not worn. In case they are worn (even one of them), you should replce them all. Good luck !!

SOURCE: washing machine

it could be the break above the transmission. it engages what looks like break shoes when the machine is not spinning. if these are worn down to the rivets then it will make this noise. it requires a special tool to replace.0de7df9.jpg

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

Frigidaire was tub makes loud thump noise during spin cycle....

Need more information to make an accurate diagnosis, try removing the front panel (two screws at bottom) and visually check first the belt (all the way around) and then the springs that hold the tub suspended.
I would bet on the belt.

Vibration of wash machine

Hi!

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. If there's a loud thumping noise during the spin cycle, the load of clothes has probably gotten unbalanced. Open the lid, redistribute the clothes in the washer, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Loud clicking/thumping in rinse and spin cycle

It doesn't look like a motor problem !!! It seems like an unbalanced tub issue. The machin has suspension dampers and suspension rods, and it's look like one of them was damaged or "run away" from its location during machin's movement. Goog luck !!
