How to replace maintop (cooktop) frigidaire oven FGFG79GBA

It is a gas appliance. From the installation manual.

Installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency or the gas supplier.

It needs to come out as there is almost certainly fixings from below. Screws on the burners, only hold the burner rings down.

The installation manual doesn't say how the top comes off, just how to install. No Service Manual for it.

did you check the house fuse ?

Actually if you've removed the 2 or 3 screws at the front (underside) of the cooktop, you can lift up the front. Prop it up with a board, and then remove the 4 screws that hold the 2 brackets that hold the 4 elements to the cooktop. Now pull the cooktop forward a bit, and you should see a green ground wire attached to the back of the cooktop. If not, then don't worry about it! Just pull that cooktop up and off the range. You will need to transfer the 2 tabs in the back of the cooktop, and the silver steel bar located at the front of the top to the new cooktop. Then reverse the process to install the new cooktop and re-fasten the elements to it.

Hello Larry D Harris - Does any part of the range work? I would recommend verifying that a fuse is not blown or a circuit breaker tripped. Test the power outlet with a lamp, hair dryer, etc. Another questions, does "Loc" appear in the display if any button is pushed? The Oven Lockout feature automatically locks the oven door, prevents the warmer drawer and most oven controls from being turned ON. If so, press and hold CLEAR/OFF for 3 seconds. A beep will sound. LOC will clear. The "DOOR LOCKED" will continue to flash until the oven door has completely unlocked. Do the maintop burners work? Granting that it does, you can try confirming that the shut-off valve on the gas pressure regulator is in the "ON" position (usually located on the back left-hand side of the range). This valve shuts off gas to the oven. If after the basic troubleshooting, you continue to experience the issue I would suggest contacting a certified technician to assist in the full diagnosis and repair of your range.

to remove the top to access the surface burners their should ba couple screws in between the lower part of the cooktop and the upper part of the oven door. by opening the oven door and looking up at the bottom of the cooktop you should see those screws.

BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THOSE SCREWS BE SURE TO DISCONNECT POWER TO THE RANGE

often the bake ignitor will burn out during or right after a self clean cycle.You can confirm this by either measuring voltage at ignitor while oven is on.Alternate method remove ignitor ,check continuity, If the ignitor is coming on but no gas,replace ignitor it is weak.Hope this helps ,please take the time to rate my response :)

LIFT UP TOP FROM FRONT ABOVE OVEN DOOR.

I can help , The fuse panel/control board is located behind the digital display in the front of the unit. Some drop in ranges are tricky getting into so be carefull when removing the face , there are screws under the display when opening the oven door look up and there may be a few more on the top side corners reveled when you pull the unit out 12" or so. there is a small glass fuse in the board some of these are not removable so if there is no digital display on your oven and your sure you have 240V to control board you will need to replace the entire control board.
