Canon MP610 Scans blurry images and photos

I upgraded from Canon MP500 to MP610, the printing quality is better, however the scanner in the MP610 doesn't seem to be able to scan images sharp, they all come out blurry no matter what different setting I choose.

I have the same problem. Scanning photos is awful! They are blurry and completely unusable, though like you said, the print quality is very nice. I've also tried to scan documents using every possible combination of settings and those are completely unusable as well.

I had the same problem with one of these units. I had another one that worked great so I knew it should work. I called Canon and after some questions about the problem they sent me a replacement unit which works fine.

Canon MF3110 - Copy problems When we try to copy a document it comes our blurry, yet if we send a document from computer software it comes out fine.

Try reinstalling the driver first. If that does not work, the issue is with the scanning hardware, which will have to be calibrated. Try doing a calibration of your scanner from the tool box first. If that doesnt work either, then it is definitely scanner hardware defect.

If your all in one is under warranty, I'd recommend you contact the point of sale of the manufacturer. Unfortunately, if your warranty has run out, you will either have to get it serviced or buy a new machine (whichever works out cheaper)

Hope that helps!

Photo quality

With nearly ALL Canon printers, you must use Canon paper for photos. The MP500 isn't really a photo printer like the 600, so that is also a problem. Try using the Canon photo paper. It's a bit pricey, but might be worth it in the long run.
Hope this helps.

Canon mp500 onlt scans part of the page

I was very frustrated by this problem too, but just found a fix at last!!

Instead of focussing on the settings on the scanner itself. Use the MP navigator software to change scan settings and get around this problem. there you can set document size, colour or black and white and even DPI (quality) .

Printing in black and white on Canon MP610

Mollmal...if you read the previous posts you would realize that the grayscale option still uses color....and does not solve the problem...there are two black ink cartridges in my printer...a small one that goes with all the color ones and a large black ink resevoir...the small one is completely empty...the big one is full....I think what people want to know is ....how do they print in black and white solely from the big one...I would like to know also

Why are the areas that should be black on a photo coming out dark red. All the cartridges are working properly as I have printed a test page and recently removed the head for cleaning.

Canon mp610 scanning problem

The readme says that some USB hubs have an issue.

I was having problems and was connected via a hub. I removed the hub and connected the printer directly to the back of the PC and voila scanning is all good.

COPY PROBLEM

You have a scanner problem.  You might try and make sure you're using the right plug for it.  If you can figure out how to take the glass off, you should try cleaning all the glass and mirrors.  You should also clean the area just above where the scanner rests when it's not being used (you'll see a white strip there).  If none of this works, you'll probably need a new scanner.  Junk the thing.
