Problem sorted, at present anyway ..... switched off/unplugged machine overnight again but also removed telephone lead. Try your suggestion if it happens again.

Your unit has a certain amount of memory designed to store faxes... if they are stored there, here are the instructions for retrieving the fax's from the memory:

(I found this at: http://safemanuals.com/annexe_MX310%20series%20Easy%20Setup%20Instructions_CANON_PIXMA%20MX310-_E.htm

Printing a List of Documents in Memory
The machine can print a list of documents stored in memory (the memory list) showing the
transaction number (TX/RX NO.), transaction mode, recipient, number of pages, date, and
transmission time of each document. When printing or deleting documents in memory, specify a
document by its transaction number.
1 Press the FAX button, then press the Menu button.
2 Press the [ or ] button to select MEMORY REFERENCE.
3 Press the OK button two times.
The memory list is printed.

Please assist me in printing a fax message that is stored in the memory of my Canon MX310.

Hi there

Before printing an actual fax, you may want to see a list of faxes stored in memory. To do this:
  1. Press the FAX button, then press the Menu button.
  2. Press the or button to select MEMORY REFERENCE.
  3. Press the OK button two times.
  4. The memory list is printed.
Note:
  • If there are no documents stored in memory, "NO DOC. IN MEMORY" is displayed, and the machine returns to the previous screen.
  • In step 2, you can also select PRNT REPORT/LIST (see Summary of Reports and Lists) and then MEMORY LIST to print the memory list.
  • If you have canceled receiving a fax in progress by pressing the Stop/Reset button, the fax may be printed after the memory list.
Now, when you're ready to print the specific fax you like, please do the following:
  1. Press the FAX button, then press the Menu button.
  2. Press the or button to select MEMORY REFERENCE.
  3. Press the OK button.
  4. Press the or button to select PRINT DOCUMENT
  5. Press the OK button
  6. Press the left or right button to select the transaction number (TX/RX NO.) of the document you want to print, or enter the number by pressing the Numeric buttons. If you are unsure of the transaction number, print the memory list. See Printing a List of Documents in Memory.
  7. Press the OK button
  8. Press the left button to select YES to print the first page only, or press the right button to select NO to print all pages of the document.
  9. Press the OK button.
I hope I have been of some help.

Canon MP530 - Fax Memory is Full... How do I clear?

Check your ink cartridges and fill any that may be low. I got that error because one of the cartridges (magenta) needed to be refilled. The printer was storing failure reports in its memory until they could be printed out, leaving no room to fax new documents. As soon as the ink cartridge was replaced, the reports printed and freed up the memory to send out faxes.

Memory full display when trying ty fax

Thks for the above info. Went to my 530 to fix same problem and didn"t work. Mem in use light kept flashing. Re-traced phone line and outside line and found they were plugged into wrong jack. Moved the phone to the phone plug and outside line to outside line, and problem gone. This worked for me but there may be other causes that will make this happen
