Dear God, It was like a comedy. I got on the whale boat, after having the Canon ixus 60 for 4 years. I've never had any error messages. The whales came 10 feet from the boat and twice raised their head, and no camera, just the beeping and the error message: lens error; restart camera. What you are seeing is a generic stuck lens error message, turning off the camera and turning it on again will not fix the lens unfortunately.

Your lens needs to be cleaned or repaired, and if it cant be repaired it needs to be replaced. There are online places that will do it for a decent price and there are others that overcharge by way too much.

Had my S2 IS now for 3 years , never had a problem with the lens. I'm careful not to bump my lens into anything. I actually bought the lens hood and put a filter on my lens so that no dirt can get into my lens or I can't accidentally bump my lens into anything while i'm using it as it's protected by the adapter and filter.
