My D50 Nikon camera reads CHR I bought a new SD

The D50 works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it will only work with devices specifically designed to accept SDHC cards. The D50 wasn't. It only works with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

My Nikon D50 has started taking purple pictures, it was fine and then today every picture took was purple.

Hi there:Could be a problem with the CCD (the light sensitive chip that produces the image) or the connection to it. If the lines are present on photos after they are downloaded and / or printed, it points to this problem. while your camera is not on any current list of cameras for possible free repair, the information at the link below may be of interest to you since more and more newer models have the identical problem: Click on or copy and paste the link into your browser... Blue line threw d50 pics

Hi there:Some symptoms of a defective CCD include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.A CCD problem would explain the lines on your pictures and the lines on the LCD (since the CCD is used to feed the live image). CCD (Charge Coupled Device) is one of the two main types of image sensors used in digital cameras. When a picture is taken, the CCD is struck by light coming through the camera's lens. Each of the thousands or millions of tiny pixels that make up the CCD convert this light into electrons. The number of electrons, usually described as the pixel's accumulated charge, is measured, then converted to a digital value. This last step occurs outside the CCD, in a camera component called an analog-to-digital converter. In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own; check this article for additional details:Bad CCDs. This, isn't a good new, but hope helps to solve it.Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Unable to show the menu, the top screen does not

It is possible that the small built in back-up battery is failing or has failed. This battery is built in and recharged by the main camera battery, three (3) days of charging will recharge it and it should last for approx one (1) month. For more detail refer to page 69 of the User Manual at the bottom of the page.

If this does not fix the problem, then you may have to get a Nikon Service Agent to check the camera.

Hope this helps

Nikon d50 wont take pictures and displays r10

R10 is not a error code, it tells you how many pictures (on average) the camera can shoot before it has to stop and clear its internal memory by writing to the SD card.Is there a card in the camera? It will not fire without one. Also, if you have taken 20 or 30 thousand exposures, then the electronic switch (not the button on the top) that fires the camera may be worn out.

I have a Nikon d50,

Inside the camera is a mirror which reflects the scene up to the viewfinder. It flips out of the way when you press the shutter button. When the mirror flips up, the shutter opens and exposes the sensor. When you look inside, if the mirror is stuck in an up position, you will not see anything in the viewfinder. However, the mirror is super delicate....do not touch its surface or try to force it.

The camera will not snap

I had the same exact problem. I did some research on this issue. Apparently The D50 will not work with a memory card above 2gb. I swapped my 4gb to the 2gb and solved the issue. Good luck.

Can the D50 Nikon be

No. There are hardware differences that prevent SDHC cards from working in devices designed only for SD cards. Since this is a hardware difference, no amount of firmware updating will change this.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but that's the way it is.
