Please can you tell mr what fault code F5 is thank

Hi Alison from retired Englishman in SW France,

Indesit (Hotpoint, Ariston) 'F05' stands for 'pump block'.

I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to rinse or spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Following are my complete and generic guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT (alternatively use a wet vac as sensibly suggested by VinnyB1234!)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.

It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

When we switch on machine it trips out after a few

There are an huge number of things that might make a machine do this, so I will cover what I suspect atre the main cluprits.

I'm basing this on a guess that if you power the machine on, but don't start a cycle, then it will sit there happily until it starts a cycle (If it trips out before you even tell it to do anything, then I would suggest that you probably have a controller module fault).

Before you start, check the tub shield gasket (This is the big grey rubber between the door hole and the drum. Push the drum backwards a little, look for rips or tears (run your hand around the entire circle of the gasket, there could even be a tear in the side or top, a little out of sight.

Presuming my initial guess is correct, it's probably time to start by taking the top off the machine (I can't remember if this model's top is held on by a couple of torque screws, heddin behind a couple of plastic covers about the size of your little finfer nail on each side of the lid, or a couple of screws that are clearly visible on the back of the lid, screwed through a plastic protruberance and into the chassis - One of these two options will be correct!).

UNPLUG FROM THE MAINS BEFORE YOU PROCEED!

Having removed the 2 screws, you may need to give the front of the lid a sharp tap backwards, to release the 2 plastic hooks in the lis from their holes in the chassis, now the lid lifts off.

We are mainly looking for water, or marks where water has been (usually a little chalk deposit unless you are in a very soft water area). Obviously, if one of the following checks turns up something, you will have to replace the faulty component.

Look around generally. Pay particular attention to the pipes that lead from the water inlet valves to the soap drawer, gently wiggle any rubber pipes looking for cracks or loose connections. Look down the back of the machine. If the main bearing is failing, then there may be rusty water splashes on the drum or inside the chassis wher water has come through the rusted bearing and splashed about as the drum drive wheel has spun.

While you are there, look to where the power wire comes into the machine, nearby, you will find a white cylindrical start capacitor for the motor (Its an object about 3 inches ong and about an inch and a half in diameter. Are there any distortions in the plastic that might have been caused by overheating or burn marks (Brown plastic) or scorch marks where the spade connectors attach?

Take a general look around for wires hanging off, while unusual, it is not unheard of for a wire to become dislodged from a component (There should be no spade connectors just hanging around, they all have a home somewhere).

Have a good sniff around, do you smell burning or burnt plastic? does it lead you to some damaged component.

Still nothing found? Go to the rear of the machine, at the bottom you will find an oval-ish panel at the bottom of the rear with a cutout for the empty pipe to exit through it, held on by about 4 screws. Remove the panel.

You can now see the motor, the empty pump and the lower half of the drum (Not quite far enough to see the centre of the drive wheel, but almost). Once again, look for water, or water signs, particularly, look at the centre of the drum, if a bearing has failed and water is leaking, there will probably be a rusty water track visible from the centre of the drum, running down until it drips from the bottom (Clasically, the drips may have fallen onto the motor). If these signs are there then I'm afraid the cost of repair is probably going to write off the machine.

Check the empty pump (The thing about 4 inches inside the body with the empty hose attached). look for signs of water or burning damage. Do the same with the motor, spin the drum drive wheel around to spin the motor - does everything sound OK? Check the motor for signs of water shorting or burning. Again, have a good sniff for burning components.

If by now you have still found nothing, you may feel competent and able to do the following, BUT TAKE NO RISKS. You can plug the machine back in and set a program running and watch what happens inside, look for water or sparks DO NOT TOUCH OR APPROACH the machine in this condition. HAve someone looking in the back while you look in the top. Ensure that neither of you are close enough to touch the machine while you do this.

I hope that some of the advice works for you. Please rate this solution

Why does my washing machine say F-04 and wont spin

F-04 error codes means pressure switch stuck on full.

have to amitt this is a code i have not seen alot of. by any chance did you put machine on its side to check pump??

start by inspecting the pressure switch itself, remove lid and you should see it on RHS as you look at machine. round disc shape with a small pipe coming out the bottom, usually brown in colour.

remove the pipe, and when u do if you hear a clicking sound, refit the pipe and try the machine again.

if no click check the wires going to pressure switch. remove switch from the side of machine and give it a shake, if water comes out shake out wel and dry with hairdryer.

also inspect the pipe from the pressure switch right down to the pressure chamber, check for any holes, also make sure you can blow down the pipe.

all this fails its possible the main pcb.

let me no how you get on, and will try think on anything else it could be

F 08 Can I repair

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

For most Indesit (Hotpoint and Ariston) models 'F08' means 'heater relay (possibly) stuck'. 'Check power supply connections to the heater, wiring and module (i.e. PCB) connections' (apparently poor PCB connections are often the cause)

So- if you are not electrically confident and competent yourself, which you may be, you need to employ the skills of a partner, friend or service engineer ;-0)

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.

Fault Code F5 is flashing

f-05 usually relates to either the pump being blocked or the sump of this particular model being full of coins, color catchers etc.

first keep it simple, ensure outlet hose is not blocked or kinked....but if not follow these steps
  • To sort this isolate from mains
  • take off back inspection panel.
  • tilt machine forward- get sum1 to hold it for u.
  • The sump is the black hose attached to drum.
  • place a basin under this and loosen jublie clamp using star head screw driver/ 8mm socket,
  • pull sump downwards and remove any blockage.
  • note the plastic ball is part of the sump assembley.
  • refitt the sump again and tighten clamp, pull down firmly on sump to ensure fitted correctly
if there was nothing in the sump it is sumthing jamming the pump, hairgrip, nail, etc.

tilt machine forward as above with a basin ensuring isolated from mains power
  • pump is attached to other end of sump hose, right side of machine as you look in the back.
  • using flat screwdriver lift plastic tag up and slide pump assembley to the left releasing it from base of machine
  • clip of plastic cover from top of pump
  • remove wires from pump
  • u should now be able to turn pump around so u can see 3 hex head screws
  • remove screws taking note of the position of pump
  • remove pump and clear blockage
  • reverse steps to reassemble
if this does not sort it poss a new pump needed

Hotpoint WD 640. The machine

The reason for this is almost certainly because the empty pump filter is partially blocked. Unfortunately, our loving friends at Hotpoint put the filter UNDER the drum and it can only be got to by drgging the machine out and attacking from the rear. The filter is the size of a large coffee mug, covered in rubber, directly below the cetre of the drum and held in place by a large jubilee clip. Remove the clip, pull off the rubber boot and inside is a white conical "pot" with a ping pong ball in it. You will probably find lint, coins and junk inside. Clean, replace the ball, reassemble. All should be ok

Water every where

These machines have a common fault. If yours has no visible filter, the filter is in the rubber waste tube, just below the drum.
Most faults on these machines are due to a blockage or build up of sludge and lime scale in this area.
This also affects the pressure switch, which is linked by a plastic tube to the same place! This will cause the machine to stick, and not spin, otr to spin with water in the drum causing vibration.
Firstly check the outlet hose and the plumbing where the outlet goes to for signs of sludge and lime. Unless you have very soft water or a water softener, there will be some! Usually lots!
Clean this out.
Disconnect the machine from the mains and the water supply and pull it into a clear area.
Put a thick cloth on the floor and gently lay the machine on its left hand side, looking from the rear,
Undo the small panel on the back and you will see the black rubber concertina hose, pressure chamber and pump, which are now all easily accessible from the rear and the botom of the machine.
Undo the circlips with a screwdriver and the special plastic clips with a pair of pliers by twisting each part in the opposite direction.
Take the whole hose off. You find a filter and a "ping pong ball" inside this.
Clean it all out as thoroughly as you can. At the same time clean out the plastic pressure chamber and the pump. you might need to use a proprietary limescale remover or vinegar to do this.
You will usually find a few buttons, plastic items, paper, couins and a load of sludge!
Put the whole lot back, The plastic clips slide together with a toothed grip.
The whole job should take about half an hour and the machine will be like new.

Machine fills with water even when no power on

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
This is symptomatic of a stuck-open/malfunctioning water control valve- the hot water one, if the washer is hot and cold fill, and the cold one if it is just cold fill!
Turn of one of the supplies overnight to see which one is in error- that is if yours is hot and cold!
Then a service call, I fear ;-0(
