To remove the long handle with cord attached, there is a press button at the bottom near the top of the vacuum body.. Mine is covered with plastic with press written on it.. You just press the button and pull the handle off.. takes a bit of force to pull the handle out...Lee in Australia

sounds like the brushes are going bad on the motor

you have to release the belt off the belt lifter, or belt could be over stretched

Twist the bag emptor left to remove it from the upright then your need a sharp narrow pointy object (like a metal dental pick cost $1 in most stores) push it under the plastic band around the rubber on the bottom of the cloth bag roll it across and take off the plastic tie once off pull the rubber bottom part of the bag emptor take out the inner plastic tube and zip the bag put in the washer by itself and wash with soap and softner and let hang dry you can also wash the inner plastic tube with hot water and fabuloso I recondition kirbys and do it all the time.

Yes. You can take the filter bag off the Kirby. just press the button at the top of the bag to release the bag, and just unscrew it at the base... and hand was in warm water using some nice smelly detergent.... hang out in the sun to dry..... and replace the paper filter bag more often.... I need to as I have 3 dogs and the dog hair does smell after a few days inside the filter bag, so I replace the filter bags quite often to stop any smelling... Bugbuyer

needs a new neutral cam bracket, phone your local kirby agent for service. cam bracket is $15

make sure it has a clean bag and not clogged up

I just took a stiff piece of coax cable, and took the bag off where it attaches to the main unit, and took the head off ( the part with the brush roll in it) AMD cleaned every thing really well, turning the spindle for the fan while " snaking" it and pulled out a baby sock! Ta-Da! Works like New.
