Fax will not go through. It continually sends "busy" message even though the receiving fax machine is not busy.

Hi, i think your fax machine works fine, A "no response" message indicates that the receiver should accept your fax by hitting on the start button (normally its a green button) for you to able to send a fax or if no one in your friends location is receiving it. In this case you might as well set your fax machine to auto receive fax, defends on your fax machine's model. i hope this helps.

It's gone forever, once your machine received a EOT (end of transmission signal), your fax machine thinks it was received OK and clears it from memory.

Problem lies in your Receive Mode setting. If you don't have a dedicated phone line for the fax machine, you need to set it up for either Manual where you answer every call or Fax/Tel whereby the Fax machine determines if the incoming call is a fax or phone call. Select a Receive Mode
Choose the mode that best suits your needs by pressing the Mode button
repeatedly until the FAX and FAX/TEL lights show the setting you want to use.
Manual
You must answer every call yourself.
The Brother machine must be started manually

The FAX answers every call and receives a fax or
double rings for you to pick up a voice call.

The TAD answers every call and stores voice messages.

Are you set to "AUTO RECEIVE" ?

Call the fax machine from a regular phone and listen for fax tones.

that means that the fax machine on the other end, can't read your handshake from lexmark. Happens.

Instead of trying to send a fax try to call the number from a different phone. To see if the receiver is busy all the time..

is there any error messages coming out from your fax machine.see the error messages first.the paper should run smoothly during sending and receiving process

the number you called does not answer or busy-you may have reached a number not connected to fax or it is connected and not activated in receiving mode-check the number and call again.
if you have a message "out of memory"there is no enough memory available to send your fax.press stop/exit print the faxes stored in the memory to delete them then try again.
