Prints purple instead of black on photos only

Not one problem except when printing photos. The black prints perfectly on everything else. When I print photos, all the black spaces, print purple. This just started three months ago and if I would wait a few days, it would eventually "fix itself" and work again. Then, it would happen a few weeks later and so on. Now, it isn't fixing itself. I've run all the checks and nothing is cloged, everything is working. I use only the best Canon paper and canon ink. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled all my canon software. HELP! I need to print my photos. Thanks, Julie

My Canon printer has TWO slots for black ink cartridges. I assumed one was extra and didn't replace it when I ran out. Text printed just fine with only one installed, but my photos were printing with purple instead of black. I looked into it, and the two cartridges are different: one holds dye-based ink, the other has pigment based. Photos must require both kinds. If your printer is the same as mine, use both!

Have you checked the amount of black ink from your cartridge? You may be running out of black. Try installing a new catridge.

Also, try to clean the printer head.

Printer will only print purple

on a colour printer, black is mixed with the other colours. Try printing a black and withe photo and you always get a colour cast. If your black cartridge is empty or the nozzles are blocked, you get bad colour and fussy prints.
test all nozzles, like is explained in the manual.
Check, if you know how to do, if nothing fell in the printer, that is now on the print head. Sometimes just dust or paper scraps are picked up by the printhead, making it difficult for the printer to print a normal page.

My hp printer casts purple to black and white prints

Tried your settings with no luck. Also tried every canon profile listed to no avail.

These are my settings:
Color management:
Color handling: Photoshop manages colors
Source space: sRGB...2.1
Printer profile: Canon MP620 Series GL2/52G
Rendering: Perpectual

Media Type: Glossy Photo paper
Print quality: standard
Effects: borderless

Printer Preferences:
Color Intensity: manual-set-everything is 0-matching:none

I am using Kodak glossy paper and I am using that setting. I am printing a digital scrapbook page with color. I used black and white pictures in the page trying to get rid of the purple trees, so it shouldn't be printing any color at all in the photos, but the limbs are still purple.

Under color settings in PSE I have checked "optimize for printing".

I am off to the store to pick up another package of photo paper..maybe HP or Epson will be better (I think those are the other 2 choices in the store)

Will check back in after I try the other papers

Black ink prints perfect on the test document, but on any other document prints very light purple. Heads are clean?

Please try to print your document with the option 'grayscale' and see if the black is better. If it is ok with this setting, the light purple colour is caused by a software translation of colour. You need to change the colour settings in you printerdriver, or when you send a document to your printer, change the settings of your software application. (Word/Indesign/Photoshop or whatever you are using)

Was printing photos all was ok then printer stoped printing black

There are 4 inks, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. When the black runs out, you are left with sort of a dark purple or brown color.

Printing purple instead of black on photos

Did you recently buy the cartridge? What is the expiration date on the box? It may be old or not working well, just as you have guessed, and the printer is using the color cartridge to create black when the black does not function. If you have the option return the cartridge.
