Where is the piston o ring

The term "o-ring" usually is in reference to some sort of rubber or neoprene ring that serves as a gasket or seal for something. Pistons do not have o-rings, but they do have piston rings. There are usually three or more rings on each piston. They are split rings of steel that are inserted into grooves of the outer circumference of the piston. They seal the piston to the cylinder walls and prevent the air/fuel mix from getting past the piston into the crankcase and prevents the crankcase oil from being sucked into the cylinders. With the pistons rings, the cylinders would not have sufficient compression to do their job effectively. Rings can and do break from time to time. This can cause degradation of performance or in the worst-case scenarios, serious cylinder damage.

Where to find piston ring?

Is it just the piston ring? If so you may be able to substitute a ring from some other manufacturer. If you do go this route then be aware that you may have to set the end gap on the piston ring.

Hello im having a problem repairing my pistons and rings on my motor bike. can you plz tell me if the piston rings are supose to spin all the way around or are they both ment to lock in the groves for them

howdy.if your bike is a two stroke the ring has a pin in the piston groove to stop the ring turning.on four strokes the ring gap should be off set to each other and generally placed between 20-25 past and 25-20 to [like a clock] but no where near the side of piston at little end pin.also use a little oil in grooves to lubricate while fitting rings.some rings have angled edges so check wether they go top or bottom directions in manual or packaging with new ring sets.most rings will be marked to guide you.have fun and good luck.cheers

What is the piston ring gap clearance for the ford laser

Which Piston Ring Gap? First of all you need to purchase a Hayne's Manual for your car. It will give you the specifications under the Engine section of the book. The piston has three rings on it. From the top you have your first compression ring, then your second compression ring (these "clearance" specifications or "gap"), should be the same as measured on the piston insofar as the clearance between the "lands and grooves" or between the ring and the piston groove. The third ring is your oil control ring which will have a different clearance between (for example), the top of the ring installed and the piston's groove. Then lastly, you need to place the compression rings and place them in the bore of the cylinder WITHOUT being installed on the piston. A measurement is then taken between the opening gap of the ring while in the block. To make sure it's lined up properly, invert a non-ringed piston down into the bore from the top to make sure the ring is installed at the same depth all the way around.

If you don't want to buy the Hayne's Manual, just stop by your local Dealership and get the Specifications for the two compression rings, the oil ring and the "installed" clearance or gap on the rings.

Hope this Helps,

Husqvarna 141 piston ring, what is the required gap for the ring? Also, does it matter which way the piston is positioned in the cylinder, there is no arrow or difference that I can tell by looking at it.

It's been a few years but I've installed piston rings in many small engines. Many rings are beveled or rounded on the top outside to prevent excessive cylinder wear or scaring the cylinder wall. The bevel should be very slight and very hard so see. Some may have a small dot or marking cast into the ring near the end/split. If that is the case the ring should be installed with the marking turned toward the cylinderhead. Hint, lube the piston, rings, and cylinderwall before installing the piston. Gene

Piston rings

First, be sure they actually do fit the bore. Take a ring and insert it in the bore. push the ring halfway into the bore using the piston. There should be about a 1/32" gap in the ring. Anything more than 1/16" and you need rings the next size up. If the ring won't go into the cylinder because the gap fully closes, the rings need to be a smaller size.

With the correct size rings, put them on the piston. Some pistons have an index pin in the ring groove Fit the gap to the pin. Put the piston mid-stroke and place the cylinder over the top of the piston. Squeeze the rings closed as you gently tap the cylinder downward and over the rings.

Use original parts.

Piston ring

The piston ring whilst the piston is still in the pot should be relitivly tight. This is because it creates the seal to maintain compression. When the ring is taken off the piston it only has about 4mm gap between the two ends, any more than this it's probaby knackered. worth checking pot and piston for scoring around the exhaust outlet as if it's going to loose compression it will be at this point. If all these are fine check the decompression valve (if you model has one) if this is broken your compression will be ruined.
