SOURCE: prints roller smear marks

Laser printers do not use Ink. The problem is most likely a defect on the drum, which in this model printer, is part of the toner cartridge. Replace the black toner cartridge with a known good one and test.

SOURCE: paper jam back door of Lexmark T640

Hello there,

Since you are not able to grab the paper from behind the printer. It make sense to believe that a major part of the trailing edge of the paper is still inside the printer. I would suggest you to open the front cover, remove the toner cartridge and check out if you could try removing the paper from inside. If this doesn't help you might want to remove the redrive assembly (the back portion of the printer) which can be taken off by removing two little screws on it. These screws are located very close to the backdoor which you opened up. Once you remove the screws, press either sides of the latch which is present on the top of the redrive assembly. Hope this helps!

Merry Christmas!

SOURCE: How do you clean the rollers?

One common cause of paper feed issues is a build up of dust on the printer's rear paper feed roller. This roller consists of a plastic axle white roller. This is located in the automatic sheet feeder and is referred to as the "Pick Roller." As dust builds up on the rubber rollers, they become less tacky and therefore unable to grab a single sheet of paper.

To prevent and/or cure this type of paper feed problem, these rubber rollers should be cleaned. Unplug the printer's power cord and remove the paper from the automatic sheet feeder. Please remove the paper access door from back of the printer and clean the white rollers inside with a cloth dampened with warm water (be sure there is no excess water on the cloth as it may drip into the machine). After these are free of any dust, close the paper access door. Reload the paper and plug the power cord back in. The paper should then feed normally.

Next, try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:

1. Make sure the printer is in “Copy Mode.”
2. Press the “Menu” button once.
3. The screen will display “Copy Menu: Copies”.
4. Press the left arrow button once. The screen will display “Copy Menu: Tools”.
5. Press the check button once. The screen with read “Tools: Maintenance”.
6. Press the check button once. The screen with read “Maintenance: Ink Levels”.
7. Press the right arrow button until the screen reads “Maintenance: Print Test Page”.
8. Press the check button once. This will start the Self-Test. Once the page has printed, the printer will stop. The test is not continuous.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either a solid black or solid color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, please try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with only a color cartridge installed (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed). If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.

If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues - we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.

SOURCE: paper feed won't pick up

The paper pick up fingers and rollers get smooth and polished with use and then slide on the paper. Clean the rollers and pick mechanisms with isopropyl alcohol to rejuvenate them and restore their grip on the paper. Do this as far along the paper path as you can get, using Q Tips where necessary and turn the rollers to clean their whole surfaces.

This should help. Good luck !

Cassette (Tray 2) paper pickup and feed rollers

To remove the paper pickup and feed rollers

1 Remove the cassette.

2 Locate the two rollers on the bottom of the paper pickup unit (above the cassette). The pickup

roller is the smaller roller, and the feed roller is the larger roller.

3 Pinch the tab on the end of the cassette pickup roller (callout 1), and pull the roller out.

4 Pinch the tab on the end of the cassette feed roller (callout 2), and pull the roller out.

Blank pages when printing

Altinis:

Remove the paper tray and look up into the paper pickup area. The roller there is the paper pickup roller. Under the paper pickup roller is a paper double-feed prevention pad. Take a "Q-Tip" dipped in alcohol and clean both the paper pickup roller and the double-feed prevention pad. That should prevent the paper double-feeds that you are experiencing.

How do I clean the rollers on my IBM Infoprint 1332??

Hello,

I most cases if you are having paper pickup issues with this unit the rollers will be worn down not just dirty. The pickup rollers that pull the paper from the paper tray on the bottom of the printer are not very expensive, they run about $4.00 We carry them in stock at: http://www.ccl-la.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=24_59_60 Replacing them would be much better than just cleaning the rollers. If you pull the paper tray out and look under the bottom of the printer you will see 2 small rollers with rubber tires on them. These are the pickup rollers, they should feed rough, if they feel smooth then they need to be replaced. We also carry the full preventive Maintenance roller kit that includes the pickup rollers, charge roller and the transfer roller. We provide full tech support for all purchases too.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution,

No paper pickup, press enter

Suspect worn and or dirty paper pickup roller. To check the roller simply open top cover and remove toner cartridge. Roller is D shaped and can easily be removed by gently pressing the two tabs outwards. This should pop out the roller from the holder. Clean roller and check for wear. If worn replace.

Says out of paper and is not out of paper

Most of the time, paper feed issues have to do with two sets of rollers in your machine that are responsible for paper pickup and paper separation. (It sounds as though you may have a "pickup" issue).

Turn off the unit. Unplug the power cord. With the bottom paper tray removed, you will be able to see these rollers hanging down toward the front of the machine when you look inside where you removed the tray.

The pair of rollers are the pickup rollers. The single larger roller is the separation roller. Check that these rollers are not dirty.

Clean the pickup rollers with a wet, hard, lint-free cloth; the separation roller with a wet, soft, lint-free cloth. Clean horizontally along the rollers. Turn them around a little at a time to get at the entire surface.

You may also want to clean the pad in the paper tray. Use a wet, hard, lint-free cloth and scrub the pad horizontally.

Replace the paper tray. Plug in the unit.

HP Business Ink-jet 1200 1) when it starts printing and the paper feeds it makes an extremely loud clunk sound regardless of the paper tray being used. 2) each and every time the paper comes through it...

The pickup roller is problematic. First clean, then replace if necessary.

The part should be under $20.

To replace (from HP Support):

1. Unplug the power cord from the
printer, and allow the printer to cool.

2. Open the toner cartridge door, and
remove the toner cartridge.

3. Locate the pickup roller.

4. Release the small, white tabs on
each side of the pickup roller by
pushing them away from the roller,
and then rotate the pickup roller
toward the front.

5. Gently pull the pickup roller up and
out.

6. Position the new pickup roller in the
slot of the previous pickup roller.

Note Circular and rectangular pegs on each
side prevent you from incorrectly
positioning the pickup roller.

7. Rotate the top of the new pickup
roller into position until the white
tabs on each side of the roller snap
the roller into place.

8. Reinstall the toner cartridge, and
close the toner cartridge door.

9. Plug the printer in to turn it back on.

Hope this helps.

Does not pick up paper from the tray

How much paper gone throught the printer since it is new?
usually the pickup roller is good for 10,000-15,000 sheets.(20x500 sheet pack). if the printer went throught that much paper, then the pick up roller need to be replaced.
if not, make sure there nothing stucked on the pickup roller, and the roller is not shining (it need to be soft and rough).

Will not print. says out of paper but there is paper in the tray.

this is indicate that the roller is having some kind of problem.
open the backdoor, make sure there is nothing preventing the roller (should be 3) do its job.
take out the paper from the paper tray. make sure there nothing in the way of center roller path.
re position the paper. load enough paper, so that the paper is right under neath the center roller, remove 2 sheet. try to print. if it pickup the paper, then it is telling you that the roller need to be replaced. if it still having problem pickup the paper. then there is something else we need to investigate.
