My color ink cartridge is out, and now I can't print plain black and white documents. I know my black ink cartridge is full because it is new. What's up? Thanks,
My Printer is a PIXMA iP6600D - I never print in color but I always have to replace some color or another every now and then because the ink evaporates and when even one color is missing I can't print even in B&W. It's pretty annoying. There's a certain point with printers when you realize it's cheaper to buy a new one that might be better than to keep replacing ink you don't use.

I have a HP Office Jet K60. My color cartridge is empty. I replaced only the black ink cartridge due to lack of funds. My printer sends a message 'remove and check color cartridge' in the mean time, the printer will not print.

You need to click on the maintenance tab and change the settings to 'print in colour'. Where it is though, I don't know. I'm in the process of finding out. I have the same problem but I think I may have sorted mine out.
I went to the control panel double clicked "Printers and Faxes" from here I right clicked on my printer and chose "Properties" here I was given a box with my printer settings etc. I chose "Printer Prerences" this gave me another bow with more settings here I chose the tab "Color" and ticked the bow which stated "Print In Grayscale" And then I pressed "Apply"
I have not yet tried this to see if it works but I am about too. Wish me luck! and I hope this helps others :)

The HP DeskJet 6122 can print with both or only one ink cartridge installed. The printer driver includes an option to print in gray scale as a substitution for color. If you choose to print a document that has a color other than black and white with only a black cartridge installed, I recommend you select the gray scale print option. To select gray scale, select the printer properties and check the box for gray scale rather than color printing. This selection can be made either at the time a document is ready to print (ie., a one time selection, using the "Properties" box in the print options window), OR as a permenant setting using the Control Panel, Printers, HP DeskJet 6122, "Properties" window. Once changed in the general printer properties, these settings remain active anytime the HP DeskJet 6122 printer is selected to print a document.
You can only use the black ink cartridge without the color ink. But no need to replace them in your printer.
When you print just choose black and white for the printed text must be black not colored. But if you still received such notification...just try to replace the color ink cartridge to continue printing
Note:
As per my experience. printer with exclusive black ink alone will damage the printer easily due to unbalance printing of ink
Well, here's what Canon says. In my experience, you can expect to go through a black cartridge in about 500 sheets of paper, less for the color. Our Canon uses ink quickly. The printing speed is pretty fast for a printerthat is for black-and-white documents around 8.4 ipm and a color document printspeed of about 4.8 ipm. While for 4R size photo print takes about 43 seconds.Canon PIXMA MP496 resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi for (max). It is said the all-in-one, because already integrated between print, scan and copy. For copies, this printer has a speed of around 7.6 cpm for black and white documents, while for the color is obtained at about 2.6 cpm.
if u want to print selected document in black than open the document select print go to printer properties select grayscale printing
always print in black
go to printer properties than go to maintenance than go to ink cartridge setting select ink cartridge black only for balck and white printing only.
OR
CHANGE CARTRIDGE
When you go to save it or just before that you select file then go to print properties under that there should be a selection to print it in black and white.
Let us know ether way but its done under printer properties.

When you print, in the printing window, click properties, then click advanced. Most times you can select to print using black cartridge only. Unfortunately you will need to replace to get the printer working. If you need further assistance let me know. Thank you, Lee
when you print black document the printer should only withdraw black ink,or you have go back to computer to tellthem print black and white, How? when you click print the screen will show out printer setting box ,you can find the option over there.
if your document only black and white , the machine only use black ink, no going withdraw the color ink. but you have had to leaved the full color ink in the machine.
Your printer creates it's black by using ALL the colours together. This effectively gives a very dark purple rather than black.
It sounds like you have a colour cart that is drying up or may be struggling to get enough air into the cartridge. Make sure you have removed any tape over the vent holes if you are using compatible inks. If not then try running a couple cleaning cycles via the button panel/driver.
If you alter the settings in the driver by going into START - PRINTERS AND FAXES and then right click on your 2610 and select PROPERTIES - the changes you make in here will be set as the default settings for each print job.
